Local ad on Craigslist or NextdoorI want to have a backup plan if people won't take baby chicks. Any places that you can just give baby chicks to? I called my local co-op but they said they won't. :/
If you're set up to brood them now, I don't see why not. I don't intentionally aim for May but I've ended up with 3 rounds of May chicks, so apparently that's the magic month for me.Oh, I called Wilco, and they have a breed I would love to get. Blue Sapphire Plymouth Rock. I am scared there won't be any in May, so do you think I should get them now? Afraid to mail order because of DOA chicks.![]()
That's a great idea-though I'm a couple hours away from Chehalis.Maybe let me know Have you thought of Auction on them.

Ok! If I can't find others who will take them, I'll try that.Local ad on Craigslist or Nextdoor
I would really like to try outside brooding. I have a Cozy panel heater. Still thinking about the "how" I'll do that. I have a second coop that we used to house newcomers before integrating, which has roosting bars and a space for nesting box, which won't be needed for brooding. I'll have to put a small ramp and a fence to keep the hens out, but not out of sight, I think. If you're set up to brood them now, I don't see why not. Check the panel heater for any recommended temperature ranges for use as a brooding plate - some do suggest things like 50F or more.I would really like to try outside brooding.
