Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I stopped feeding songbirds here a couple years ago (well, minus the hummers, but those feeders can be moved). Really helped to cut back on the small birds flying around the vicinity of the run as well as the squirrels and rats hanging around.

Gonna go buy some "chicken only" boots tomorrow, and planning to store them in a covered trash can just outside the run, and I'll have to see about getting hubby a pair as well as he does wear his yard boots off our property. Other than their feeder almost everything supply-wise is stored in the garage so that's pretty safe from intrusion.

Zip ties are great. I had wire up big enough to keep in chickens, and I zipped tied smaller wire to the wire, to keep out little birds. I have kept my food and water tubs in my coop run since the snow melt. And now I am keeping in my birds, not because I am afraid, but I don't want some one sniffing around, and try and tell me to control my birds (or anything.) My chickens have enclosed run, they used to have almost 1/4 fenced area to run about in, now it is smaller. They don't like it, I don't like it.

I spent last night looking at hardware cloth and chicken wire. Holy cow. I spent $56 for a 3' x 100' foot roll of 1/4 inch hardware cloth 6 years ago. It's $150 now.

I'm attatching the bird net on the inside of each pen. That way I can tie it to the roof under the tarp and make sure there are no gaps. It will take longer but should be more secure and not interfere with the side tarps.

We let our girls out to free range in our back yard witch is totally fenced in with a 6' foot wooden fence. I usually see them running around while I am working from home out my window but they all of a sudden disappeared. I went out back and started looking for them but they were nowhere in sight. I went back in the house and grabbed their favorite treats and called for them still no girls anywhere in sight. I said to my self they couldn't get out of the yard so where are they...… I walked around through the gate to the front yard and there they were sitting on the front porch banister all perched up like they were suppose to be there. Guess who's getting their wings clipped !! and guess who is locked down today !!
