Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

When my 3 girls free-ranged all day, they didn't eat much feed either. They're six months old, and I just finished my 2nd bag of feed total. Well, now that I think about not even 2 full bags have been eaten. In the first 18 weeks, they went through 1/2 to 3/4 of a bag of medicated chick start and from 18 weeks until now only 1 bag of layer feed... that's it. I recently opened the 2nd bag of layer feed. Now that they are cooped up more often, they are eating more feed. I kinda liked it better when they free-ranged. It was much, much cheaper!

ETA: My 3 girls like to look in the house through the sliding glass door, too. So, I frequently scoop poop of the patio and hose it down.

My girls also notice that the humans go into the house through MAGICAL SEE-THROUGH DOORS and so they sit there and peer inside. They like to wait for someone to come out to say hello and pet them. They might form an adorable pile for extra comfort. It's so cute that I don't mind hosing down the porch.

Yes, there was a memorial service at the museum today also. We get a lot of those. They did a missing man flight at the service of my former flight instructor too, it was very moving. You never know what you might see out at Boeing Field though. Some days it's the Dreamliner or Boeing military aircraft doing test flights. Other times, Air Force One comes in. And the Blue Angels are headquartered there during Seafair.

The flybys are neat, but sad.

With the membership we were told we get to go to the space shuttle exhibit the week prior to it being open to the public. We'll plan to go sometime during that week. My husband was funny - he stood outside the tall windows trying to film the space shuttle trainer. LOL! I think he'll get better pictures when the exhibit is open.

My kids just finished building little model airplanes they begged and pleaded for, and now they've robbed my paper stash again and I'm having an entire collection of paper airplanes being built. I'm sure the recycle guy loves our family (not). With these kids, I have to put out 2 roadside containers for recycling. Plus, I'm frequently running out of printer paper - even though I rarely print. Sigh. Maybe I should save a tree and put them to bed.

Quote: I'm up for feeding a work party, but the Tree Guy (whose name is Tobey, and who is a family friend who shows up and works cows when he's free) has a professional grade chipper-shredder which I need to have put into use on some existing prunage.
I have a girl chipper too, but I need to get the blade sharpened on it before it would be up to chipping much. I have found that I don't need heavier equipment most of the time. So the semi whimpy equipment seems to handle most of the jobs that come up on a city lot. If I was living out on a couple more acres I would definitely need to have real yard equipment. I normally hate to work with bad equipment. I have found that I can always rent Uf Da equipment if I can't manage with what I own.

When my girls were growing out, they lived in a dog kennel in the garage. Toward the end, I got tired of carrying each one of them and let them walk through the house and out the sliding glass doors. I think they remember that - because, heaven forbid, if someone leaves the sliding glass door open, they'll walk right in the house.

You have a GIRL chipper and Justbugged has a girl chainsaw??? Sounds like a murder crew LOL!
Quote: That is very cute, never have I seen your house but yet I can picture that seen. To funny!
I always thought it was odd because I have never done anything like walk the chickens through the house yet if I leave any door open they walk in like they own the joint! And if I had not swept the floor yet they just help them selfs to what ever crumbs they find. Mine also sit at the slidder door as if they are wanting in or trying to watch what's on TV.

Just a chick count up date, I have 12 chicks hatched and another one very eagerly working her way out. Still waiting on the other 18.

Quote: lol It's very interesting to me to hear about how others feel about the holidays. I once had a co-worker tell me that she celebrated the holidays because they were so much fun. But then she spent the next few weeks in tears because of all the pressure she was feeling about the holidays. I just didn't get it. If your crying all the time, then it can't be that much fun as far as I can see.

I do understand how the kids can still enjoy it. I also understand that there is something special about seeing a wrapped gift. There is a wonderful sense of anticipation that is wrapped up in the package. I have found that I enjoy looking at a wrapped gift even when the gift is for someone else, and I know whats in the box. lol It must have something to do with the waiting to open up a surprise.

It's me JB that has the girl chipper. Now that I am thinking about it, it does sound like I could have a murder thing going on here. I'm sure that it doesn't help to know that I have been teaching classes on Freezer camp. I am just hoping that this coming year will be less gruesome, than it was this past year. I am praying that we will have only one way to die here at the little city farm. I think that the little boys were a little freaked out about the poor bird the dogs had scared. The meat bird was trying to get away from the dogs, and it fell into the rain barrel.

I just realized that I am not making this sound any better. It's a good thing that I am normally a very good girl.

But it may look like I am try to train a crew to help me with the dirty deeds.

This will be the first holiday season with both my parents gone. I don't know what will happen. We've always had large family gatheriings. Will we splinter into smaller ones or what? I just found out I'm losing my sons for Thanksgiving, I suggested they have their dinner early, and join us for dessert. I could also invite their father to join us for dinner.
