Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

If the under fluff is a slate grey color, then the Silkie is a dark Blue color. A black Silkie should be black all the way to it's black skin.

Hey all. I posted this last night, but I don't think anyone saw it since this thread moves so fast. I unfortunately was unable to make it to the show this weekend. I was wondering what bird/gender/and who owns it won Champion Feather leg and Reserve. Thanks!

I did see your question earlier but did not know the answer so didn't respond. I do think that at some point WWF posts photos and results on their website. I'll keep my eyes open.

Here's what I'm making for Thanksgiving. Anyone else care to share? My MIL is doing a turkey and something with sweet potatoes. SIL is bringing fruit. I figured I had better dress up the table a bit or we'd have a pretty boring Thanksgiving meal.
Autumn Chopped Salad
Cranberry Orange Sauce
GF/DF/SF Chocolate Cake mix (don't know what I'll put on it yet)

I miss holidays with my family whenever we have to do them with the inlaws. They're so minimal and boring.

I just love my new baby, Farmin Momma's little Belgian!  She's the most darling thing and I think my diabetes gets worse every time I see her because she's so sweet!  :gig

We named her Marmalade.

You and me both.

Belgians/ Barbu d'Anvers are the most charming little birds, sweet-tempered and funny to watch and so little OMG.

If you haven't checked out the thread in the Breeds and Showing section, you should- there was a picture posted last night to answer my question about perches, and... it's just so.. I dunno, here go look for yourself, isn't that just darling?

We had a tarp roof collapse down on the silkie pen, and fill with way to much water. I was out there baling water out. We got two more supports cut and put up, and raised it back up. It's much sturdier now and hopefully there won't anymore issues.

The quarantine coop is surrounded by a moat, but it's dry inside. We put it on a high spot when we moved it. The silkie run and the main run are pretty good. Last year the main run was a puddle but we filled in so much that it's good now.

It almost sounds like the universe is out to get your Silkies. lol    I'm glad they are safe for now.

I raked almost 50lbs of fir needles off my tarp over my coop. Stupid wind and rain. I can't wait to get started on my pallet coop for the birds. Couple more weeks of pallet colection and then I can start.

So to those of you that are also using tarps over your runs and coops, do you find that water condenses and drips from underneath? I have alot of that going on in my silkie pen. Thinking of getting something else to cover it. But not sure what.
Any ideas? Anyone?

The trick is that you either need two layers of plastic with a layer of loose 2" mesh chicken wire between, so they're not in contact, or a hoop roof so condensation runs down away from the chickens: the second is easier to deal with in the long run but harder to build; the two-layer thing is easy to build but a pain to maintain and uses a lot more materials.
