Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

LOL. If he was aggressive at all, I might threaten him with that. I've got him and the ameraucana cockerel trained to stand still on the scale for weighing. They will do anything to get a few peanuts. The brahmas are nice and laid back birds. I'd like to get some heritage large fowl light brahmas eventually, but these are pretty nice birds for being hatchery stock. Mongo was supposed to be sexed as a pullet but just had that cockerel look to him at about two weeks old.

Quiet day on the forum. We spent 7 hours at a friend's house for Thanksgiving, and my son completely skipped his nap so he had a meltdown as soon as we got home. We're figuring tantrums out though, and he was back to normal in a half hour and went to bed happy. On the other hand, I woke up with a slightly sore throat and now have a really bad one. It hurts to talk. I'm very glad my husband will be home the next three days. Lately my son wants us to read a dozen or more books a day to him. I managed Green Eggs and Ham, barely, but sent him to dad for the rest.

Tomorrow I want to take more pics of Jerk, my SLW, and see if I can get another opinion on gender. Jerk hasn't been participating in the cockerel dominance foolishness, and is looking like a hen to me again. Might just be wishful thinking, since Jerk stepped right up onto my hand today and chose to hang out on my arm for a bit. I am really hoping I can keep him/her as well as the SF and speckled sussex pullets. If I somehow end up with a GLW pullet I'll send it to some friends who want layers. I'd rather keep a silkie instead.

Oh, and to update the cocci outbreak with the new birds: they are all alive and eating. I noticed bloody poop in the blue silkie's cage the second day so put all of them on Corid. I didn't see any red poops today. The white silkies need to be dosed through Sunday night and the other two through Monday night. It was so worth it to pick up the bottle of Corid before bringing in the new birds!

Ugh, I have to go out and change the medicated water before bed. Being sick sucks.

Ha - most the pics where they were eating were blurry!

You see - the first thing that happens is they all run around to all the pieces to eat the pumpkin & flax seeds first - then they'll peck on the meat for days.

Here are a couple more pics with a few more actual eating birds =)

And here is our poor Foxglove...miserable because she is molting and telling everyone about it. (I should show her some pictures from the molting thread!

For the sore throat get some "Fisherman's Friend" throat lozenges. http://www.fishermansfriend.com/ They have always worked very well for me.

As for the Cocci and Corrid. Stay the course and no matter how well the birds look don't stop treating early.

Just a reminder Monroe Farm & Feed has their 12.99 for 50 pounds feed sale today and other items on sale.
I'm leaving now will be there in 30 minutes.
If you going to be there say HI.
I'll be in a Chevy Express Contractor looking Cargo Van all in black clothes with a cowboy hat on.

BTW. For those that work in the rain the cowboy hat is the best thing there is.

We are going to go get our tree right now. Then I am headed up there to stock up on feed! And maybe a few other things as well. :D
Oh! I have a broody! For the first time in a couple of years! I am now working in getting some fertile eggs. Hoping for a few from my black boy and blue girl. Keeping fingers crossed!
