Hooray! I got my supplies for completing my coop today. I am transitioning a quarter of my tool shed into a coop and a portion of the yard into the run. Built a screen door for the coop so my daughter could check in on her birds any time she wants (the screen door is inside, so no drafty drafty!). I will finish the coop tomorrow and start on the run. The use of scrap wood and donated components has kept total costs so far to about $100. I'll update with pictures on my webpage once it is complete... but right now I am very energized, and so is my two year old daughter... every day this week it has been "Let's buy chickens" and "let's build a chicken house"... so... here we go!

P.S. Tamara - Looks like we will need to arrange a meet-up next weekend! My seller was a no-show

', I've been talking and calling everyone for some runner ducks! Going to the Enumclaw Poultry Auction tomorrow hopefully will be able to find some or find some contacts!!? I am soooo not impressed with the feed stores in the South King and Pierce County areas! Any ducklings that have came in the last couple weeks are sold and gone within 30-45 minutes of arrival! My biggest problem is that I only want 2 or 3 hens. UGH! You know that I'm going nuts when all my friends went to dinner and drinks on a Friday night and I'm running around to feed stores looking for my babies!('

I used to get my ducklings from a feed store/farm in Arlington called "Strotz Country Feed" its right off I-5 , Arlington exit. They had an assortment of ducks and chickens. They even had rabbits at a good price. That was about 8yrs ago so I don't know if they are still selling critters but you could give them a call.
Heres the number 360-652-6064.

We have. We've had all kinds of crazy weather today. Our power was out for awhile but fortunately came back on a lot quicker than usual. My kids were all crowded around the door watching the hail and the wind. Then a little bit later it became sunny!

Ameraucanas are kinda easy that way if they comb comes in well enough. With mine, I have two blues and two blacks who have huge, pink colored combs. The other ones have small, yellow combs with hardly any "peas" showing up yet. Also, the biggest give away is if you give them food when they're alone on your arm or something, the boys will make a quick, excited "chook chook, chook chook!!" sound, calling the girls to share the food. It is SO darn cute, and my boys are already doing it!!

As for my Marans - Only definite on one right now. He's got a huge pink comb, fleshy pink wattles coming in, has an amazing roo body with the chest already getting large and heavy, and his favorite thing to do is perch on the walls of the brooder, watching quietly over his flock.

You're confusing me - You want good quality Polish, and you're thinking on getting some from Cackle? Sorry to sound harsh, but isn't that an oxymoron. . Or an incomplete sentence?

. . Or am I reading it wrong.

Anyway, I don't think anyone around has show quality Polish. Rare Feathers has Houdans and Crevecoeurs, but your best bet really is to look through the Polish Breeders Club.

I've mentioned before that I have WCBs, but only girls. I lost my boys before they even got feathers.

Good luck at the auction. I hope you get your ducks. I want a runner duck, too. They're cute.

Yep, just a little after noon - it just came out of nowhere! Crazy weather.

Helaine I got a lionshead bunny last weekend. The dust is just beginning to settle, over the addition of a bunny to the household. I really shouldn't have bid on a bunny, or I should have bought the Flemish Giant. I am fairly sure that the FG could have held it's own in my house. I love bunnies they are so quite compared to dogs. The 3 finches I also bought have been a big hit in the house. The cats love watching them from a distance, and of course they are also frustrated by the distance. That works for both the birds and myself. The family has all stated that they are enjoying the pleasant noises that these small birds make. I will probably need to take Bun-Bun back to the auction, but for now the Bun-Bun has a safe place in my sewing room.

Welcome to all the newcomers. I hope you all can find what you are looking for.

The weather in Enumclaw is disgustingly normal for today. We haven't even had enough rain to fill the rain barrel more than an inch or two, and that total includes the past few days.
