We were there from about 10 to 1.

Darn it! I WAS THERE!!!!!
We got there about 11:30-12 and left about 1:30, stopped by Bridge of the Gods, then went to the Bonneville dam visitors to watch the salmon run.
Went all over looking for Toni before we left, no sign of her anywheres.
I asked everyone "You see a woman with a black duck on a leash come through here lately?"
Everyone pointed to the parking lot, so I guess she left before me....didn't get to say goodbye to her & Daffy Duckles

Oh! I saw her every where I went but I did not know that was her, or I would of said Hi ( poo) and you also of course, but a black duck with a green leash and diaper is hard to miss

I make a big batch of tomato/pepper sauce and can it. Cut the peppers (red, yellow, green) into strips, cook with the tomatoes, onions and seasonings and can. In the winter this sauce is great for:-
1 - chili base
2 - cacciatore base
3 - sauce for pouring over rabbit
4 - sauce for pouring over porc, or goat or whatever
5 - base for sausage soup
6 - sauce for pasta

And a lot more things. If you don't overcook them before canning, they actually turn out pretty good, and don't take up freezer space!

The stuffed bell peppers were nearly hot through when we ate them last night. So they were still a very nice crunch when eaten. I am not sure that I will use canned peppers. The last time I canned peppers, I seem to think that I ended up throwing them out after moving them 4 or 5 times. I am a fairly decent cook, and they'll eat just about anything I cook. But I do know that I have some strong food likes and dislikes.

I am fairly certain that some of my problem with certain styles of food like stuffed peppers and stews is that I still have troubles with even looking at them. My mother wasn't the best cook, and her stuffed peppers were overcooked green peppers with hamburger and white rice. She did season the beef with onion, celery, plus Salt and Pepper. But that was it. It doesn't help that I have never liked onion. I now cook with onion, but I can dice it super fine. That way I don't get a mouthful of onion when eating it. I have also finally figured out that I dislike green peppers for stuffing. They cook and start to soften, before they are hot through. I found that the red and yellow peppers heat better, and retain their crunchiness. I also use brown rice or quinoa to stuff the peppers.

I don't even know how describe the stew growing up. I can hardly even look at stew. I know that I must make fairly good stew, because my family seems to love it, but sometimes I can't even bring myself to eat it. I can't remember ever liking a stew growing up. So I make them because I will make pot roast, so the leftovers always become stew the next day. DH is English by heritage, and he still likes the overcooked vegies and things like liver and onions.

He loves going to the Black Diamond Bakery for their meatloaf sandwich too. I should taste the meatloaf there someday and see if I can replicate it for DH. But I am not thrilled with meatloaf sandwiches. I think DH would eat anything put between slices of bread though.

My experience with pouring sauce over meat hasn't ever seemed to go well. I tried it with rabbit, and DH refused to even try some. I will have to think on this idea of cooking. The last year the guys had to butcher a bunny, because it had managed to paralyze it's self. We had to find a distant family friend to eat it. DS cried and DH was very cranky about having to butcher the bunny. My MiL said that the carcass looked like one of my Yorkies. That comment finally got to me. So for now no rabbit on the dinner table, but if things get worse, and I am really hungry, all bets are off about eating bunny.

I am sure that having not having been really hungry in my lifetime, that the things I would be willing to eat can still change. I find it interesting that I will try just about anything, but find that I really don't like as much as I wish I did.

What do you think..is there a distant relationship with Swedish Flower hens and Icelandics?

Vikings?

I think I blame the Vikings for a lot of things.

Yes take away the food up to 24 hours before butcher time. That way his crop won't be full. I can't say that I have noticed any really nasty smells when butchering. We can do about 14 birds in an afternoon without really pushing hard. Just remember we don't pluck feathers. We skin the birds and I de-bone most of the meat. I have some links for tutorials that I could dig out if you want them.

The picture of the tunnels brought back memories from living down in the Camas/Washougal area. I miss that area. I look back now and know that the best years of my life where the years we spent there. I wish we had stayed there.

With you all talking about Toni and Daffy, I should let you all know that my phone numbers have all changed. If anyone one here wants an updated phone number send me a PM.

Maybe, just maybe, if you weren't told what you were eating, you wouldn't take a dislike to it! I had a client (who buys eggs from me) come by and I offered him some cooked duck. He adored it and asked to buy some. When I told him it was duck, his jaw dropped and said, "but I hate duck". I think that very often we get these odd ideas in our heads and just can't get rid of them

You also said DH likes liver. So do I, but when my hubby butchered a goat recently and brought back the liver, I almost died. Took me a while to finally realize that goat liver is not so much different from calf liver. It was the IDEA of it that got to me.

My SIL always tries the food I cook, but she has often said that she doesn't want me to tell her what it is

Never judge young chicks by the tail. It's either a comb thing or a color thing. Most often a color thing with EE's though.
