Cayuga ducks lay BLACK EGGS.... then later blue.... then white... one bird 3 colors in a year.

Oooooohhhhh!!!!!!! Now I almost want duckies. I love the color of Cayugas' too. I just hate the mess part, and what would bet that only one duck would hatch, and I would end up with a duck that wants to sleep in my bed?

Ducks? You say you want ducks? I might know someone who could help you with that!!!

Just don't let Chickielady and her DH hatch them for you or they WILL sleep in your bed!!

I'm on the search for some ducks. . . .

Anyone here breed or know someone who breeds Saxonies or Silver Appleyards of good weight? Ones with good enough quality that I could eat and enjoy? I know, harsh thing to say, but they're gonna be slug-eaters and layers too

I am so sorry for your loss. Your Tilly reminds me of the first goat I ever knew. Hilda was a milk goat that my parents got, because I was allergic to cows milk as a child. Hilda was with our family for many years. I have say I don't really know what happen to her. Anyway it so hard to loose a pet.

I didn't go to the show either. I had planned on going to the show in Stevenson this spring, and then DH had to go to Japan. So some day I will go and get to see our good friend that live in Carson, and see the show.

I am recovering from Stevenson- a fun show as always with great people to talk chickens with. Not our day for big wins, but that's OK too. Rob did get Reserve in the Youth Serama Tabletop Show and I had the best white silkied I learned a TON about showing seramas- quite an education.
Those were some impressive geese, Jennifer. I have NO IDEA how you managed to get 10 of those humongous geese to the show. I wanted to bring my huge bronze turkey- thought about the work involved, and left him home. As it turns out, that was probably wise. The poor guy broke his leg yesterday afternoon ( He was just too big for his poor legs) and Craig had to come home from work early to butcher him so he wouldn't suffer. My son weighed the dressed carcass before I put him in the freezer. "Hey Mom, Mr. Turkey weighs 50 pounds!" I said, "No way." We reweighed him: plucked, cleaned, washed- no neck or giblets or anything--52 pounds!! Unbelievable. I wonder if he'll even fit in the oven come Thanksgiving....
PS CR- the frog looks great!
PPS Lighten up, guys, we all love chickens and are fortunate that a show exists to love or be disappointed by. The way things are going, as we oldsters age out, there may not be many shows at all if we can't get some young strong bodies to join and help with the work.

I just have Cayugas... 7 I think 2 are drakes... but won't know until they finish their second moult... never knew ducks went through 2 before mature... shiny black gets even shinier. They do get to 8 pounds.

Not me. I just got them bowling pins on legs! They are good egg layers but I don't know about meat. They are light weight ducks so you would need a few to make a dinner!

Maybe someone else?
