My second chick hatched! I now have one blue/black Orpington and one Lavender Orpington!!! My other Lav Orp egg is pipped, but none of the others. I had 16 eggs at lockdown, most of them Lav Ameraucana's. Please send pipping/zipping vibes! I'd be THRILLED to see a few more pips before I go to bed tonight!!!!!

I live in Kitsap County and have two beautiful Silver Laced Wyandotte hens that need a new home. Both will be one year old in August and are laying daily. Unfortunately, last year I bought more chicks than I originally wanted based on the recommendation of the feed store employee that suggested that a few may die or be roosters. All of them turned out to be healthy, happy hens but I don't have room for all of them and as they mature, they are becoming too territorial for our small back yard. If possible, I would like them to end up with a similar living arrangement where they can have some free range time.
If you are interested, please feel free to send me a private message or IM. I plan to be home for the majority of the Memorial Day weekend and would ultimately like to re-home them before next week.
Thanks!
Candace

DANG !!! You got that right on !
I do not bat an eye at a cat anymore, I have watched a ######## cat take down a full grown 10# rabbit in my backyard, bit her on top of the head and paralysed...the rabbit dead instantly...I was 8 years old, and I will not tell you what my Dad did to the cat.
It was not my cat...nasty animal, it is meant to hunt and kill, so pay attention to that fact.
It is also an invasive species that does not belong here....and is killing alot of birds and other native species.
Cats need to be in cages, not running free.
I have several after my chicks and the 3 nests of Robins I have next to my garden that I LOVE !!!
The birds actually come and eat worms from me from my compost~~~

That is totally not true. I am not even sure YOU had all those things going on, the symptoms were not there.
And no one else had it buit the wee isolated friends around you, all stemming from one place.
No one else had any of those diseases and I am confident that you didnt have them either.
Having lice and mites is something that is easy to deal with, and also something not to brag about, as it is always caused by poor cleaning conditions, so it all shines back on your chicken-keeping.
Birds kept well, NEVER have any of those problems.
Advertising that you have is is duhhhhhhhhhhhhh...stating WE have is not true.

I took my kids out in the 'yard' in Okanogan and taught them how to shoot, and most importantly, I showed them what happens to what you shoot...they have grown up with both a healthy respect for guns, but also a self respect to protect themselves, rather than be victimized.
Teach your kids, do not ever illimenate the fact they THEY WILL find out one way or another about everything!
Drugs! Pot! Sex!Guns, all of it !Curiosity didn't just kill the cat.
Be their friend and teach them well !
And parents that walk around thinking their kids "would never do drugs" are kidding themselves.
Be your kids' friends...ask and tell with them.

Up at Norpoint Shooting Range in Arlington (by the airport just off of HWY 9) they have a very good handgun instruction class. It's around $50 and fills up fast but includes classroom time that goes over the different types of handguns, Washington State laws and other practical info. The afternoon is spent on the range actually handling and firing the handguns under close supervision(if you don't have your own you can use one of theirs if you let them know ahead of time.)

A little closer to you in Everett is Sam's Gun Shop who also offers a handgun class though it's more expensive ($100) and doesn't go over WA state laws. They do cover all other info but this one is an NRA class so they don't get into specifics for states. I've taken both and enjoyed both but if I could only do one it would be the one at Norpoint since they cover state laws.

These are of course on handguns, not long guns (rifles) but all of the safety info still applies and it would get you comfortable with handling them. My three older kids (age 10-16) are all in the 4-H Riflery program at Sam's Gun shop during the school year. We just ended for the season and won't start up again until fall. If you have kids and are concerned about them with the guns this is a great program. They stress safety and common sense as well as training them for excellent rifle skills. On the plus side, if your kids do well they can dispatch the problem creatures for you and even get scholarships to college through the program.

If you are going to have a gun in the house you should probably look into a gun safe too. If it's a long gun you will need a safe tall enough to house it. If it's a handgun you can pick up small safes designed for quick access. Hanging a loaded gun above a door would be a very bad idea IMO. An unloaded one would only hurt if it fell on you and you'd need to find a place to store ammo that they can't get to but you can. Even with a gun safe, training for the kids is still a must.

Also if you're interested in handguns but don't know what to get go rent some at a local range. Sam's has the biggest variety for our area. The other range with a good selection of rental handguns is Wade's in Bellevue but that's kind of far. Anyway, you can rent out all the guns in one caliber to decide if any of those will work or you can rent specific guns to try. Another good option is to go to the range with a friend who might have a gun or two and try theirs. I've taken several of my women friends to the range to try shooting for the first time. We always start out with a .22 handgun and work our way up the calibers as they're comfortable. Who knows, you might find you actually like shooting! Mondays are ladies night at both Norpoint and Sam's so women don't pay the lane fee. If you have any questions I'm happy to help and you can feel free to PM me.

I was waitng for you to chime in on this one NWChicks!!

All of the shooting ranges out here (everywhere) have classes and instructions on shooting, and classes for kids.
We grew up with guns, and we grew up hunting.
Hiding guns from kids is a big mistake.
Taking kids out and shooting with them is what is needed, a parent, and a shooting class.
We have them here at Willapa Harbor Gun Rabge.
The Sheriff's Dept, and local police are always here as well, an excellent place to learn for both an adult, and your kids !

So quick update: after I got everyone in I set the trap and went to my friends house for the eveneing. When I got home my friend/landlord was outside looking for the cat because she had shot at it twice before it got dark. We found him and it didn't look like she had hit him. I moved the trap to where he was hiding in hopes that I would catch him over night. When i got up this morning he was not in the trap, but one of the other cats was. What was worse was that my husband had let the babies out before work, before checking the trap. I haven't seen they cat all day so i'm not sure if he has stayed around. I'm sure I will catch him again, I had to catch all the others around here to take them to get fixed and the live trap never failed!
I am exahsted and can hardly keep my eyes open so hopefully tomorrow I can catch up with everyone. Good night.
