I want to get Wazine and worm my flock, and also vaccinate for Mareks on the birds that have not been.
I heard that the shot, given under the skin, make a small bubble, and then later the birds can act very sick, almost to the point of appearing near to death from the live vaccine, is this true ?
Got some pointers here ?
And do I give the same small under-the-skin bubble to all, chicks, pullets and mature chickens as well ?
Next Q: Wazine and Mareks at the same time be too much ?

I have had no ill effects from the Marek's vaccine. Mind you, the fowl pox vaccine is another story- weak birds may become ill after that one. You give the same 0.2cc dose to a chick or an adult- vaccine theory is not weight- dependent. Seems weird, I know. I have not tried vaccinating and deworming at the same time. I probably would not do it with my more inbred birds, but would do it with my free-rangers. I am writing an article on small-flock vaccination- may post it.

That is so cool ! You have no idea how long I have looked for info on IF we could vaccinate adult birds and WHY do they alwways say 'day-old-chciks' only ?
I always wondered about a 2 day old chick, or a week old ?
Well, thanks you so much !
It is fantastic to be able to have someone answer these q's...I used to raise koi, and went through living hell when they got diseases, there is so few vets who know anything aboout fish and fowl.
Thanks so much, again !

None of my 18 PBR have the white tufts as you have, my PBR are also more barred.
To tell you the truth, that bird looks more like one of the Cuckoo Marans babies, barring not as distinct...but still, the CM's do not have the tufts either...where did you get this baby ?
Think it may be a CM-EE cross ?

First of all, your little girl is adorable, look at those curls !
And the pony is beautiful !
And here is some pictures of the PBR's born April 4th...note distinct black and white stipes...no white fluff even when they were tiny, their fluff was black and yellow accents.

Now these are chase shots of a few of my Cuckoo marans Hens, note they are darker, not striped but kind of mottled with a liter silvery neck hackle.

So now you can see why I was thinking your baby looks alot like a Cuckoo maran...even still, do not think the cuckoo babies have a white tuft...I will go back in my albums and see what the Cuckoos looked like when they were babies.
Oh, and these are the PDR pullets that will need homes soon, and Have 2 PBR roos, they are taller, more developed combs and have smaller black strips so their overall effect is that they look lighter colored.
Will post a photo of him if you need~

I am aboout ready to get some eggs from you.
I thought we could get the roo from LaSombra, and the next day swing by your place and trade the roo for a doz eggs, and then go visit my kids in Monroe, then drive home that evening.
We just would go to LaSombra's the day before to get the roo, we could not do the whole drive in one day or there would be no visit time.
Let me know.
And Jack has dug under the gate already !
He also runs and tears ass all over for about 10 minutes then sleeps.
My vet says he is growing and what given his supposed breed(s) she cannot waite to see how fast he grows.
He sleeps sooo much !
Growing ! He stops, drops and grows like a fainting goat, almost alarms me.
I swear he has grown alot in 2 days !
I got another big roll of 2X4 wire, and am cutting strips 2 feet long, and folding it in about 1/3, and attaching it to the bottom of the fence so he cannot dig under, and I attach the same all around the outside of the chicken runs, so coyotes and dogs cannot dig under.
If anyone wants a picture of what I am describing, let me knnow PM, cuz I am going to log off and get soem work done since it finally stopped raining.

Do not know where you are, but I have 16 PBR pullets, and 2 PBR roos that we got from the feed store on April 4th, for my brother who said he wanted chickens, then said he was not ready (mentally) and then he was going to build a coop, then got distracted !!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile these girls need a alot of room...so I will be willing to sell some off if anyone is interested, or take to the farmers market soon....I love their big brown eggs, often double yolkers.
Let me know, not sure how far it would be to you...

I'm in Poulsbo on the west side of Puget sound. Im not 100% sure where Raymond is either. Thanks for the offer!

The man that I sold my ducks too out in the Fairwood / Renton area has a whole bunch of them. He bought them from a neighbor and was told that they were barred rock, but she just doesn't look like my barred rock. If she is a CM I might just have to get a couple more.

I cannot find any pics of my Cuckoo Hens when they were chicks, but I just hatched out 4 more CM chicks 2 weeks ago and they do not have the barring as the PBR's do, and so far they do not have the fluff muff either.
Bet you have a CM-EE cross, can't waite to see the eggs!!

Thanks Everyone!!!

Oh and good news! The hen that I thought was taken this AM. Well she didn't get taken after all!!! What a close call! I was SO very happy to come home from work to find my 4 remaining hens waiting for me on my front porch!

I will not be making the same mistake twice. My girls may get mad at me, but they will be locked up from now on.
