It is officially snowing here, super-fine dust swirling in the winds ... or maybe that is just some of the weekend snow blowing from the roof.

I hear cars sliding out of control ... must be snow. The kids are hoping it won't turn to rain until at least noon so a snow-day will be called. DS needs it to catch up on all his homework! DD should too, but she leaves it all in her desk.

OK I have been busy, but I see you all are looking for some sort of treat for chickens that has high protein, like kelp and fish meal ?
I used to buy 50# sacks of TROUT CHOW , had to order it from my Purina feed store (in California) for our koi.
It comes in a powder for fry, (that is baby koi) and has graduated sizes all the way up to a little bigger than a pea.
We kept it cool, as it has oils in it, and if it is kept too long or in heat it can rancid.
TROUT CHOW. Do not buy koi food, it is totally blown out of proportion in price.

I have been thinking about getting some kill cones.

We did our first processing of extra roos last fall. I just used a big bleach container with the bottom cut out and the top cut off for a kill cone. It worked well for the big birds, but we did a couple of bantams and they seemed to be able to push against the sides of it with their feet and flip themselves out. I agree, skinning them is the way to go for your first go. We watched this video and it was really helpful....(WARNING! The video is of processing chickens so some might find it graphic!!!)......

At the time we had our Cuckoo Marans pullets and they LOVED to have a few balls of fish food, my dog loved it too...
