I dunno, but I'm pretty sure chickens don't actually care about luxury, as such.

I know, right? It is nice, but $3000? I think that one will be around for a long time. My DH would have a fit if I asked for something like that! We can build something for so much cheaper. Maybe not quite as nice, but the chickens don't seem to care as long as they are fed, have a comfortable place to sleep. The other stuff is for my convenience.

That's for people with lots of money in fancy neighborhoods.

Raccoons are scary, no doubt. I'd rather run across a coyote, who trust their legs in most confrontations where raccoons stand and fight.

On the other hand, my hired hand (the computer lady's daughter) was getting on 101 at Evergreen Parkway last night and had to wait for a mama bear and two cubs to walk across the on-ramp.

I guess bears always have the right of way.

It's soft, and once one is there, they all want to be there. Or maybe they just want to be close to the food when they want a midnight snack.

I was just making that up .... though if I were talking about Roopert, it would not be *pecked*, but SPURRED !

have never seen him peck anyone (actually only Becky seems to peck, and rarely) ... but they all do jump at each other, or cluck and hiss

Whoever made the sign doesn't have any experience with roosters.

#1 .. give them a 2x4 as a roost to perch upon (in the warmest part of the brooder area)
#2 .. use an old ice cube tray as the food dish, with the divider still in it ... or use a surplus wild-bird feeder, so they have to lean in to get the food, and are separated rather than massed

(second option is actually better, as it gets it off the floor so they can't kick stuff into it or perch on it and poo)

They are odd little nubbins, in any case.

I have a divided, covered chick tray I could bring down tomorrow. I just need to remember to run it through the dish washer. I also have a bag of chick feed if you're interested.

May never have even seen one, from the picture.
