Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

Lots of changes in pairings these days. I got Chicory the cutest little girlfriend yesterday. Not sure if she is a "white-fronted" cross or perhaps greylag, but I think they make a great couple. Spirit and Ember are doing great. Ember is laying well and Spirit tries his hardest to mate. I think he could be successful if they had water.... hopefully if the weather warms up soon, I'll put them back outside with a kiddy pool.

Looks like I will have fertile buff eggs since I broke down and let Pistol (my big 2yo gander) and Ginger (my little 1yo goose) be together. Nutmeg, my big 1yo buff gander got a crush on Piper, my smaller 1yo buff gander (who has paired with Barley, the buff girl I hatched last year with Chicory).....so I figured I'd put Nutmeg in solo pen with my biggest 2yo grey goose and keep my fingers crossed for Nutmeg to figure things out.

It's a work in progress...........

congrads on the eggs Marty......... curly tailed girl... that would be new,lol

hope they all work well for you J

Well, I've got 5 american ducks, and 4 of them have curly featheres, but I'm getting two eggs a day now. It was new for me. I mean, it might have happened before, but with more girl ducks I wouldn't have noticed. I thought I only had one girl, and trust me, I know how to sex adult ducks.

What are american ducks, i don't think I've ever heard of them.

I mean american ducks as opposed to muscovey ducks, in this case. The sort bred out of wild mallards, ie everything BUT muscoveys. I have Anconas and runners, but one of them is a girl with a curly tail! I've checked them all again carefully, and I'm sure all but one have curly tails, but daily I'm getting a gray egg and a white egg. I'm thinking it might be the runner, since they lay white eggs. Anconas could lay gray, white, blue, or greenish.

Hard to be sure.

Only you would have a girl masquerading as a boy
Well, if i figure out which one it is, I could send her to you. Maybe shes a hermaphrodite. Then, I'd have a self fertilizing girl masquerading as a boy. Maybe I should pen her up alone, and check for fertility! Then, I could breed hermaphrodites, and start a line of self fertile ducks. LMAO.
