Daisy one pump is all you need. Any time he comes around, pop him one in the rear. Make sure you shake the Daisy every time. After a while, you should not see the dog and if you do, you can just shake the little bb can and he will book it out of there. Works well for barkers too. Shake the can and they shut up quick. It bounces right off so it's nothing too bad. It does get their attention though.

Send a copy of the law where you have the right to shoot highlighted. Don't put your return address on it and mail it. I would also call the cops about the kids since you can't talk to the parents. You have the proof and if they get hurt its your butt.

It isn't a Basenji, it is obviously some kind of Boxer or Pit Bull mix.

I'd suggest containing your birds for their own safety. There's no sense in being stubborn because they're in the wrong and ending up with no chickens to show for it.

My hens are safely contained. I get the impression that people don't read all of my posts. There are 5 roosters loose and my 10 breeding/laying birds in a pred-safe pen. The loose roos are "extras" but I like them and DO kill to defend them.

Keeping chickens was a whole lot easier when I had them in my own back yard. If I could shoot the butt-hole neighbor and get away with it, I wouldn't have any of these problems with loose dogs or loose kids. There's a rotten neighbor in every neighborhood though, obviously. When I go shopping for my next house, the inability to see my nearest neighbor will be a *requirement*

Not reading your posts? You just said you don't keep them all contained!

you need some strategic prickly plants such as yukka planted in the right spots....such as the main path the little stinkers are using to access your property.
You may want to consider fencing the front parts of your property and if you have not done so put up No Trespassing signs. Even though you do not get along with the neighbor you need to let him know that their kids and them are not welcome on your property.
Start calling the law out when you catch the stinkers in the act. If their messing with the chickens no telling what else the little vandels are doing while you are away.

Sorry you have such *beep* for neighbors; hope you can find a solution that brings some relief and peace.

It's not show quality but, it sure looks like a Basenji to me, you can see the screw tail. The only ones I've ever known were high strung, feisty and reluctant to being trained.

Opuntia cactus are a good bet too - keeps out trespassers. Unfortunately we have quite a stand of them and they are completely winter hardy here, and seem impervious to weed killers, bleach, salt, etc. etc. they do keep the neighbors cats from using the sandy soil as a litter box.
This particuliar type has only sparse long spines but, it has millions of tiny spine hairs. They are lighter than air and just a breeze will lodge them in your hide. The itching and irritation can drive you wild. They can "migrate" from outside a tough garden glove to the inside- what a nice(!) surprise that is the next time you slip your hand in.
An animal only sniffs at them once and then leaves wearing a lions ruff of stickies like tiny porcupine quills - gets in eyes, ears, nose, mouth. Humans don't fare much better, they work their way thru the toughest clothes, soles of shoes. You usually can't see them but will feel them for a long time. I would love to be rid of them but each attempt leaves me more damaged than they are. No wonder a neighbor was so generous in giving me a couple pads to start.

I don't know what a screw tail is, but here's another picture of it. My FIL originally told me it was another pitty like their adult dog, but I am not so sure it's any pit at all.

I love stinging nettle.Did you know it will cause pain for hours? I have some in pots to move around.Grow some to keep the kids out.
Rub poison ivy on the dog and send him home.

Ever since a neighbors husky attacked I keep mace handy.Never know when a dog will attack.

Hope you move soon...or they do.
