Are the laws the same in the U.K? Do you have to have a certain number of acres? We are starting a petition, but I think it would only apply in state. I will everyone updated. Thanks for your support

OK, I havent read through the entire thread, still on page 2, but from our experience with our town DEFINITELY DO NOT SAY YOU ARE SUPPLEMENTING YOUR INCOME with them. The PET angle is much, much better argument, I believe.

I believe that your strongest argument here is that they ARE NOT LIVESTOCK (per their own definition... you are NOT raising them for eggs!!) but rather they are pets.

However, I'd like to speak to you more about it, as there are certainly other variables.

I went to the town hall, and they said there is absolutely nothing I can do, I can't keep chickens, because chickens are not domesticated animals. ummm, I thought chickens were domesticated? So does that mean I can keep my ducks? And we also found out that the down right next to us, you can have as many chickens as you want, but we can't

I think it's time to move. PC we're moving in with you when you buy that farm

They certainly are domesticated animals...
This is my town's definition of a domesticated animal...

Domesticated Animal - Any animal occurring naturally or historically in the United States, that through long association with humans, has been bred to a degree which has resulted in genetic changes affecting the temperament, color, conformation or other attributes of the species to the extent that makes it unique and different from wild animals of its kind. (aka not domesticated)

This is the ancestor of our household chickens:

Of course there is something you can do. You can run for mayor, city council, start an initiative to change the law. Moving is also an option of course. To me it sounds like your town's government is quite full of themselves. Nothing you can do sounds like a challenge.

If chickens aren't domesticated then are they wild? Can wild animals live in your yard?

I think the people in charge come up with a lot of pat answers that are more accurately described as myths. Someone doesnt want you to have them. You can fight if you have the fortitude. Hang in there.

Just tell them face to face, "Hey, my chickens are part of my spiritual family. If the government denies me part of my religion then my civil rights as an American are being taken away."
