I picked this out of the bin at Meyer Hatchery and I’m a bit stumped on its breed. I went through all the breeds they sell and none of the chick pictures quite match with mine. Is it a clean faced EE? One of their olive eggers? I’m just confused that it has a single comb since pea combs are dominant.

Misty definitely looks like some kind of legbar or legbar mix ( probably the latter, an olive egger from the legbar breeding program Meyer has ). She’s getting the salmon colored chest. Hopefully this means she’ll have a crest.

She kinda looks like my bb red Old English game bantam but older. I’ll have to get some good pictures in a bit, but I bet that is what she is. How’s her temperament? Just curious

My bb red is only 8 weeks though. How long was she tiny?
Meyer’s doesn’t carry any gamefowl in the standard or bantam size. She’s about the size of the leghorn, but she was pretty big as a chick. She’s real flighty like a leghorn too

Wow! She is super interesting. Looks almost gamey. I would doubt Penedesenca due to skin color and lack of pencilling. I would have to think Olive Egger would make the most sense but she is definitely unique. Please update on egg color in a couple months! @Overo Mare, look at this bird from Meyer Hatchery! Am I missing a possible breed?
I have no idea. Completely agree though. Has to be some sort of hatchery mix.

Can you send photos into the hatchery for ID? Not that I trust them much, but would be interesting to see what they say.

They say breed identification is a service they don’t provide. :idunno Who knows if they’ll even respond, but I can try.

I’d say she’s just an olive egger.

Whatever it is, it's doggone cute!
The legs/feet look greenish to me, so I think you are probably on the right track with an olive egger. Their site says single comb for the OEs.

Hope you update so we can see how she :fl turns out.
I know, she’s adorable! I was hoping she was a dorking, but she doesn’t have the extra toe. I tried comparing her to the pictures people posted in the reviews for their olive eggers and EEs but I still couldn’t find any matches.

That’s why she’s stumping me so much. I’ll definitely update when she’s older, though.

Dorkings have white skin, white feet. Colors can be deceptive in pictures, but looks like your chick has yellow or green feet.
Yeah, doesn’t look white right now at all. It’s more of a greyish yellow, but I know their leg color can change as they get older. I don’t know, I think it’s just a big waiting game at this point. She should be making it clearer in the next few weeks.

Okay, mystery chick is 3 weeks old today and I still have no idea what she is. I am, however, thinking she’s definitely a cross? Maybe a legbar cross? Who knows, but I’m naming her Misty.
