How did "Karen" end up being the brunt of all this angst and represent such a terrible type of person? My sister's name is Karen and I have a very good friend named Karen and they are totally opposite of this list. They are both wonderful people, as I am sure many other Karens are. Just wondering where all this came from? Why Karen? How about "Butthead"

... I'm not sure.
The same way that "Mary Sue" became "Mary Sue," maybe? Popular opinion and then it just eventually became a... what is it, a meme? Trope? Something.
I have nothing against the name "Karen," though -- it's actually quite nice.

Apparently it is because of Karen off of Will and Grace who was unmistakably a "Karen"

People who see my young turkeys say "Those are big, weird chickens!" People who see my flock also like to give my chickens names, but, lol, they already have names. And usually the names people give are for the opposite gender.

What is up with people doing that?! I had some people come by and start naming my chickens last week at first sight.... Like, what, you don't think I have already named them??? LOL

I think it also has a bit to do with women of a certain age. Names get super popular and then fall out of favor, you don't see many kids named Karen but there are a ton of middle aged women named Karen.

My mom is Darlene and pretty much every person I have met named Darlene is about her age. When she was in school she was in classes with a girl named Arlene and one named Marlene so that "lene" name was super popular back in the early 50's.

Most "Karen's" are roughly the same age (other than the 30 something PITA soccer moms).

Karen is really just a name for a certain demographic of middle aged women. I like the name Karen, but it seems since so many entitled people were named Karen it just happened.

I feel for all the nice Karen’s out there, but I don’t feel for all the Karen’s that think they own the world. If someone thinks of a better name for those people that act that way, me and a lot of other people would jump to calling them that, but right now the only thing we have to call them is Karen. It really just boils down to the fact a lot of people act that way, and most of them happen to be named Karen. No hate to the good Karens of the world, they deserve a lot of respect for not having their fellow Karen’s entitlement.
