Wow, that's incredible! I didn't think a rooster would do something like that.
I did hear a similar story about wild birds though. There was a pair of blue birds that had eggs, but the mom was killed. So, the dad sat on the eggs, hatched them, and successfully raised all the chicks by himself.

Wild birds often take turns on the nest. One will sit while the other feeds. Blue birds will even take turn feeding the chicks once hatched. Tufted titmouse are the same. We have bird houses around the property and those 2 breeds are the majority I've sit outside my shop watching.

Me: Do you want to meet the chickens?
Neighbor: Uh....sure!
Me: *opens gate to yard* Come on in!
Neighbor: Where are the chickens?
Me: over here, in the coop!
Neighbor:...Wow, it’s big. Why do they need all that space?
(The young birds have 4.5 feet each)
Me:...Uh, why not? They are happy with more space.
Neighbor: no they aren’t. Chickens don’t have any feelings. That’s why it’s ok to have them in really cramped spaces.
Its just anthropomorphism when you say it makes them happy.

Yeah, and your dog has no feelings when you never walk it. Your cat doesn't care when its litter box is never changed. Your horse doesn't mind when you beat it.

I actually had someone the other day ask what the feet were reffered to as. "Hands?" "Uhhh, claws"

When my teens were a few years younger (mid teens), their friends would come over and they would want to see the chickens and turkeys. When they'd see the roosters....doing "what roosters do" with the hens....they'd be like "Oh my gosh! They are fighting!!" We just laughed. My youngest would explain it to them while laughing his head off. "Birds and the bees!"
