I had a cockrel that brooded with his sister on her nest before I had to seperate him.

I knew that roosters would make nests for ththe hens sometimes... but not go broody. Do they go the whole nine yards with the screeching?

Mine are all black and I can't tell them apart so I give them numbered wingbands.

Luckily my pheonixes all have different shades of feather now. XD

Males of certain breeds have better rearing instincts. My Pheonix male participates with the flock chicks as soon as the mother's take them out of the nest

My silver duckwing is a dead beat father.

They were both calmer the first time around. He was a little special though so he may have done things roosters don't normally do

I've had cockerels and roosters 'mother' chicks when the need arose.
I once had two hens fighting in a coop at dusk. The rooster parked himself between them on the roost and had a wing around each of them.

I tell my australorp hens apart by how much they whine for treats and how much they rake their beaks on my pants.
