Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

And I also think I'm gonna need to cull one of these brahma chicks :( The others are all up and active and running around. This one just lays there crying and doesn't seem to have use of one of its legs. Not slipped tendon. Not sure what it is.
:hugs I think sometimes they just use up all the strength they have hatching . I see it mostly in assisted hatchlings though . Which makes me think they are weak to began with .:idunno I hate culling and always let them go to long . Knowing all the time I need to get it over with .

I'm not a breeder, and I don't really care about SOP, but if one is going to breed and sell any type of animal, you'd think they'd only want to breed the best of the best. Well, that poster will learn once they unfortunately have a bad reputation for poor stock that those who care about the breed and SOP will not buy their animals. You tried - that's all you can do.
:thumbsup The best to the best . Judging is done on the food scale for all but a few breed's chickens . I don't think pet owners look at chickens as food . :idunnoBut you really have to .

Paid your way through college making donations ?

Yes... I got paid for my work. I was in high demand. ;)

I have 12 light brahma chicks in my incubator :wee

I bought 14 eggs from a show breeder with really nice birds. 13 of those made it to lockdown. One was malpositioned so badly it couldn't internally pip. When I opened the air cell last night it hadn't absorbed enough to safely make a hole in the membrane. Today when I checked it, it had already passed away :(

But, 12 out of 14 shipped eggs is a hatch rate I'm very happy with.

fantastic hatch!

X3 :clap

:wee :pop

Charity got her first egg from her pheasants! :celebrate

Are they really as dark green as it looks in the picture? cool

It’s really scary as a parent. We closely monitor what our kids do online. They can do and see so many things. Which can be good or bad. So I’m hoping we can teach the boys to show restraint and make good choices. We shall see.
I explained to them that boys especially tend to be very visual. And that life was so much easier if you just didn't let some photos get into your brain.

More to it of course... and I went on and explained the above in detail. .. and truly ad nauseum, as well as often. .. because you know how well they remember when it is boring

But of the 5, it worked for all but 1... and that one... uh... "recovered"

no problem.

I got certified in AI... 20+ years back...

Any of my other internet homes, that'd be artificial intelligence, so I had look twice:gig

Ok, I need some ideas. My 6 year old is getting ready to turn 7 in a couple weeks. He has been asking me for his own YouTube channel for the last year. And I’ve said no. But I’m getting ready to set one up that I have control over and he can tell me which ones he wants to download. Just silly kids stuff. He’s really really smart. I’m trying to think of a gift for his birthday that he will like. Is there some sort of filming device or software maybe that is cool for making videos? I know there are tons of different products but I don’t know where to start.

PS. We monitor our kids online activity quite a bit so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I could ask Faith what camera she's saving for, if you like? Though I agree with the GoPro suggestions later (don't know your budget--Faith's looking at a $70 camera, though she's also concerned with the quality of the mic on the camera). Currently, she's using my phone when her laptop's camera is just too horrible.

I'm done trying to help new breeders that need a lesson in genetics before they try to breed. In the AC thread I've been trying to help someone who just got chicks.

I gave some advice, they argued with me, I explained, and they came back with, I kid you not, pretty much the equivalent of 'it's dumb to cull a bird because they have undesirable traits'. Yeah, good luck breeding with that attitude.

Pretty much! Not even hatching yet because they just bought these chicks and apparently think they're an expert enough to argue with me. It's fine, I've only been breeding this breed five years, lol. The person who just bought chicks clearly knows more.

Actual words used were "It just seems like such a waste to single out undesirable stock simply because it was their time to display an unwanted trait."

That... just... :barnie

G.N.O I can't find a thing to ware .:hitWorse I can't do a thing with my hair :th:lauTrying to get caught up with stuff that needs doing . Pushing to hard and feel it every day . I think I over hatched guessing around 250 have made :idunno. Cleaned the grow out yesterday well most of it. I finished it today . Got a hundred or so locked in the coop . they are 5 and 6 weeks old .Putting in fresh sand . That's almost done .Still small enough to go through the chain link. In the morning I have to line the run with wire cloth up at least two feet. I'm just trying to do to much . Only been dizzy a few times this week .Just from doing to much.:idunno Went to DIL's school yesterday picked up my incubator and brooder . Was there just in time for recess .I got to watch the students sitting on the football field, in a circle . The chicks were in the middle of the circle . They were holding them and the chicks were the most tame chicks I've ever seen . They were jumping up on the kids . They were smiling and laughing and loving it . Reminded me that the simplest things can bring lots of joy into someone's life sometimes . I did buy a camera . As soon as I figure out what all them buttons is for :idunnoI'll take some pictures :th.:frow

You can probably ignore most of the buttons--I was given a scarily good camcorder (seriously--the thing is TV quality (lower end TV, but still) and is an adult-only piece of equipment) with lots of buttons and dials and switches and lens filters, but in reality, it can be used like a point-and-shoot.

Thomas's memorial was Monday, at our house. It went well.

We're having a yard sale tomorrow--all going well, the only furniture left will be the few pieces we're bothering to take with us, plus our beds. Card tables and folding chairs will be our lot:gig We're aiming for listing the house next Friday.

hate the chick culling. But yes...I know that what you allow you perpetuate. Who wants a flock of cross beaked pendulous cropped high need chickens? Obviously. .. lots of people I guess.

Thanks :hugs

I have no clue what's wrong with it. The foot seems a little swollen. It can move it at the hip but cannot move it at the hock, though the tendon is in place. It seems to lack feeling in the toes, too.
