Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Great photos!

Bantam wheaten Ameraucana... really like those, even though they don't lay all that great, they are just super cute, and are perfect at flock raising chicks. Also, mine are pretty close to SOP, so good looking.

In standard size:

Spitz, only Chamois.

And then a few old hens I just couldn't sell... a Marans cross, a blue Ameraucana, and a black bantam Wyandotte cross.

And.. one white rose comb Leghorn, and one dark brown rose comb Leghorn female.

Also, a male rose comb dark brown Leghorn.

I did hatch 4 chicks... looks like 2, maybe 3 girls... 2 leghorns, and 1 cross from the Marans girl.

Crazy...but I am planning on one more hatch... a tiny one... but I would like a young Spitz.

I had a few bantam Am eggs shipped to me with some other eggs. They were from a white flock. I wish they would have hatched, but the PO did a real number on the package. I would love to have some, of course I don’t have room for another breed now. But I regret not getting more of those eggs. I really like the Spitz too. Not very common around me.

How is your duck boat working? Still in existence?

It is. And it works great, technically. I actually drained it last night since we got a big rain overnight and today. I have gutters and drain pipes routed to refill it.

The problem is that the floor (where you would stand if you were riding in the boat) has busted, so when I drain it, I can’t drain or rinse out the gunk that has built up under there. (Between the bottom layers). So that stuff just muddies all the fresh water. We’ve discussed pulling it out, and l filling the hole with a rubber pond liner. It’s going to be a miserable job. I’ve even considered trying to work a pond liner inside the boat, lapped over the edges as a temp fix.

So is the entire bottom busted out? Or just a bunch of cracks? Or one smaller hole?

There are patch kits for small holes... but if most of the bottom is gone I would think you could use a liner on the inside, and then glue the top edges of the pond liner to the boat walls.

Good morning Pond Perps!

So is the entire bottom busted out? Or just a bunch of cracks? Or one smaller hole?

It’s fiberglass, with several large cracks and loose chunks now. I tried glueing a rubber door mat over most it, with pool patch kit glue, but it didn’t stick. I thought about just cutting the entire floor out, but hubby said the fiberglass would be a bitch, and probably not safe for the ducks. So if we can’t get to pulling it out of the ground this year, I probably will just put a liner in it.

The real sucky part, we will have to temporarily take down my new fence, drag the boat out, and get the fence rebuilt, all in the same day to secure the ducks that night.

good morning!! that duck boat sounds great! but some people here have so many critters they could try an ark!

Right?! I’m one of those! :D

Here’s what we are talking about. We buried a boat for my ducks to swim in.

Morning Ponders!!!
great looking birds!!!
Sorry I wasn't around to give you a boost yesterday Sir Sour :hugs
Hey Phil! We have one of those wagons too! Definitely takes a beating
Finally got a very needed gentle rain all day yesterday so our end of the pond is nice and cleaned off.
Nice cool working weather today so no more putting off giving the coop and workshop a good fall cleanout.
Days getting shorter and a lot noisier around here. Stepped outside yesterday into the quiet dawn to let the girls out and had a huge V of noisy greater Canadians fly low overhead as they rose up out of our wet back 40 and headed for the harvested barley field down the road. Al would have loved what then happened next. 7 different pairs of cranes, one set at a time, following the geese, barely cleared the roof of the house and then passed so low over my head I could clearly hear the slow "whoosh" of their enormous wings as they pushed to gain altitude. What an amazing way to start the morning
