Often a new-to-BYC poster hitchhikes on an OPs thread
There's nothing anyone can do about that - but when I see them I "hint" with they should do an intro in new members area

I love alerts too. It's a nice shortcut to your subscriptions, so no constant refreshes needed. My romance with the new BYC is in full heat. I love-love-LOVE it! My very, most favoritest thing is the "Alert" feature. Nothing, but NOTHING, gets missed! No telling how many threads I lost track of with the old site.
Only one thing I'm having a somewhat awkward problem with. It would be very helpful if the original poster could be identified down-thread so we can structure our replies. Often a new-to-BYC poster hitchhikes on an OPs thread, and it's difficult to keep track.
Many of us old farts are hoping our waning brain doesn't completely give out before we're done needing it.X2 here's another hugI think Blooie needs a hug. Many of us old farts are hoping our waning brain doesn't completely give out before we're done needing it.

Exactly!!After a bracing cup of morning tea, I went to the alert preferences and as it turns out I pretty much left all the settings as they were. The only one I eliminated was the one that tells me when someone "likes" my posts.
I think I would have liked the alerts if it didn't gray out almost as soon as it's opened, because this old brain rapidly lost track of which one's I'd clicked on and I hated having to try look down the list trying to remember if I should be looking at the first 4 or 6 or whatever. Why should I bother with that when I can just click on watched threads and know immediately?
I don't know where all this "having to refresh" stuff is coming from...once I click on a watched thread, catch up, and then go back to watched threads for the next one, the one I read is gone from the list anyway. If I click on "see all" then any I haven't read are highlighted and the ones I have are lighter. If the alerts had that function, maybe I'd like them better but they don't so I pretend they don't exist and I'm gradually restoring my teeeny remaining sanity.

Those alerts are keeping me on BYC far longer than I should be. I'm afraid I will miss something. My romance with the new BYC is in full heat. I love-love-LOVE it! I noticed they were having the same effect on me!Those alerts are keeping me on BYC far longer than I should be. I'm afraid I will miss something.
