.......it would appear I might have started a Retirement Ranch. I am a sucker for old geezer animals.....

First there is Toby, the 13 year old Shepherd mix, adopted 13 years ago.

Then there is Bella, the 13 year old Toy Poodle (age is a guess, but she is missing half her teeth and has a grade IV heart murmur), adopted 6 years ago.

There there is Norman, the 10 year old Cat, adopted 10 years ago.

And now, the point of this post, joining them fresh from the local shelter.......

Elvis T. Toes, the 800 year old Cat. Okay, maybe not 800. I would guess 12-15 years old. He just came home last night!

Here he was at the shelter the first day I saw him, Monday.

The next day when I got to visit him, Tuesday.

The day I brought all the paperwork in and officially adopted him, Wednesday.

And his first night home, Thursday.

He is such a happy boy! He can't eat dry food very well....which is all he was given at the shelter.....so i have been giving him canned food. He is just demolishing that food! Super great appetite.


He is a polydactyl.....he has 22+ toes. He was abandoned at the shelter 3/21 and an anonymous donor sponsored him so that his adoption fee was waived. He had been neutered sometime earlier in life anyways, but now also is up to date on shots, worming, felv/fiv tested and microchipped.

And very very happy.

I've often thought I should have named my place the handicapped critter zoo or the rooster zoo etc.... as I have a bunch of handicapped fowl and many many roosters that were saved from stew or sacrifice.

He's a keeper......

Yep, I didn't mention that Norman the cat is defective......he has seizures and urinary problems.

I also have a horse who is not old but lame and unrideable. She is permanently retired (was a rescue that I got to ride for a whopping 2 months in the last 5 years of ownership lol)


I like to call this place Reject Ranch. I might have to change it to Reject Ranch and Retirement Home.

I always thought that having a lot of senior pets around just meant you were a great pet owner! We have younger pets now (minus our ancient kitty-probably about 15-16) the others are all 5-6 years old. We lost our last dogs both at 16 though, so for a while we had 14-15 year old dogs and a 12 year old cat...always a good sign if you have older pets around if you ask me! I love senior pets...there is a certain charm to them...so good for you for rescuing Elvis! He's a cutie...they all are!

Mr Toes is hanging in there. He isn't eating very well.......he ate like it was going out of style at first but not now. We'll see.

He is getting along with the other cats just fine. He is very docile so just lets them be the boss and they are happy.

I didn't know Norman had white on his belly. He's cute.

I love all your old animals. Toby's demeanor totally reminds me of my old gir, Hailey. Such a gentle soul.
