well i did it !AGIAN! i eggs and placed them in the incubator TUNE IN

FarmerTed's post above is FULL of good info. I have to Emu breeders, who are also good friends close by..and email them alot. I will be trying my hand at hatching some emu eggs starting this week.

They all said the same thing, even IF you have an autoturn device...you NEED to "roll" your egg 180 degrees 3 times a day, but NEVER roll in the same direction a complete 360degrees...always roll 180 one way and then 180 the opposite way the next time. They all said for Emu eggs the "tilting" style of turning devices just do not cut it, and hatch rates are low when using them.

I will be starting all over again at the end of the week (or when my supplies arrive ) . i will take apart the incubator and upgrade it with new parts and take pics the entire way. stay tuned!

Good luck on the next eggs. Mine were about a month behind yours - now I'm about a month ahead of you. Today is day #27 for my three eggs.

I have great news and bad news. Great is I'm surrounded by emu owners! Bad news is Hubby said NO to getting eggs this year.

I went to a new feed store yesterday. He had an emu egg in a basket by the counter. The owner laughed at my excitment and explained about all the folks nearby with emu. I don't have to have eggs shipped! Yay!

So I come home and ask Hubby did he really want emus. No. We don't have our yard fenced or a pen large enough. Next year will be a different story.

But I think the main moral of this story is: keep asking! Someone near you knows someone with emu eggs!

Now I'll go back to hanging on your every word to learn as much as possible. I want to be a good emu mom in the near future!
