Is she free-range or in a run? What do her poops look like?
Have you checked for mites?
Why don't you set her in a container (a big dishpan works well) in warm water and clean her up a bit. You could even cut away some of the feathers so they don't get so dirty.
What exactly does her crop feel like when she hasn't eaten in a while?
What kind of chicken feed do you give her?
Is her abdomen swollen? When you press on her abdomen (not her crop......lower down), do you hear gurgling in her mouth?
She could have a lung(s) problem.
Have you separated her from the others?
Does her comb look healthy?
I am thinking that she is eggbound. I watched her today on the nest for half an hour and she didn't produce an egg. sooooo, now what? the whole bath and massage trick? anything else I can do?
You could give her a warm bath to help her relax. And you could very very carefully and gently feel around her abdomen to see if you can help her pop out an egg. If it's an egg, i think you should probably be able to feel something back there.
now, when I was doing her massaging of her crop and I felt a hard mass do you think I could have been feeling an egg? I"m not quite sure in relation to each other the crop and the ovuducts are in the chicken, but if I was pushing around in there could I have pushed on an egg?
so I didn't feel an egg, but then again she was getting REALLY upset with me touching her there. she kept flipping out on me. which makes me wonder if something is hurting her in that area.
I would probably have to compare her to another chicken ROFL! lets feel you, and then feel you LOL! my guess would be swelling. but then again I don't know what it is supposed to feel like, as I rarely massage my chickens in that area hehehehehe.

The abdomen should be soft and give easily. If it's hard or gives resistance, then something's up. I hope that's a good description. I don't mean you should be able to push your hand very deep or anything, but it's normally a very soft area.
