Well Proof my sister does not know me at all.......

Quote:
You can get sunflower seeds there, Karen. Last I looked that was chicken feed, LOL! Go get them seeds, girl! Or get covered kitty litter pans for nest boxes. Go with the flow.

BTW, my sister knows nothing about me, either. In the last 40 years, she's called me maybe 3 times, twice just to fuss me out for something that wasn't my fault. So, I get it.

It is not that I am ungrateful or anything, the whole point is, I am practical. Other than Sunflower seeds, which Speckledhen mentioned and honestly I had not thought about, most of the stuff there is not practical for me. My mother bought me enough storage containers for my Birthday and Christmas last year, that anything in my kitchen that comes in a box or bag of any type has a place to be stored. I have tried shampoo from there and it does not appeal to me, even for my horses. I had to use an entire large bottle to bathe one horse, so not practical during show season.
It really is not that my sister has no clue about my life, for my birthday, she sent me a gift card to Cracker Barrel, which was great since we have one about 7 miles from us. I really just find a Gift Card from Dollar Tree a little odd...... just my opinion, well maybe not a few others agree with me as well.
I will use it, eventually, but yes, as someone mentioned, I am a bit hurt. For years I tried and tried to forge a closer relationship with her, she does not now, nor has she ever approved of my life. I am not perfect, I have made plenty of mistakes, but honestly the way I live my life is not for anyone to judge, I only need to answer to God for how I have lived. This uneasiness between us goes back to childhood and I worried myself to a frazzle trying to "fix" it , now I do the best I can , she thinks my husband and I are weird. I think she and her husband are weird, at least we have that in common.
She and I do not really talk, or even email, back when she had a Facebook page we rarely communicated on there. It is what it is and I guess this is why God has allowed me to have really good friends.
I will eventually use the card, it may take a good while, but over the last few years, I have put a lot of thought into gifts, but I guess I can't expect everyone to do the same

lockedhearts, I have a very similar family situation so I'm going to suggest we hijack this thread to cheer you up with all our holiday gift horror stories. May we have your approval?

Every year, my mother gives us all red sweaters for the holiday party season. This would be a very nice gesture, I think, if we celebrated Christmas - but we're Jewish! Hanukkah is the celebration of a miracle that happened during a war siege, so symbolically its kinda like we're all wearing bloody sweaters. Or something? Gee, how festive! Our Hannukah war sweaters! Thanks, Mom!

And then, there's the obligatory gift card. *sigh* We're a military family living on a fairly rural Island with very limited access to stores and restaurants. Its really NOT that hard to figure out what is here, yet I've gotten gift cards to restaurants that don't exist on this coast, stores I've never even heard of (I ended up ordering from them online) and places I had to take a ferry to get to! Thanks, loved ones, I'm not busy enough with a husband who deploys 7 months out of every year. Its the thought that counts right, and the thought was what exactly? I need to get out of the house more often, I guess?

Mom asked me what I wanted for the holidays this year, I told her I'd love some new Silkies. I ended up with some lovely scarves.

Families. Sometimes we just don't speak the same language.

P.S. I'd spend the Dollar Store gift card on something LOVELY for your sister's next birthday.

Some people just don't know any better, I think.... When I gave birth to my first son, my Dad's (then) girlfriend gave my son an enormous gift package of jello packets! What does a newborn need jello for? Hahahah!!

I thought it was hilarious..and I never made her feel bad, or said anything bad about the gift. She'd never had kids of her own so I guess she just had no clue.

Anyway, I like Jello ok, so I enjoyed it myself.

Actually the Dollar Tree has a lot of things you could use. Cards for all occasions, balloons that they fill. Silk flowers and arrangements. Cheap but tasty chips, cookies, and generic versions of expensive over the counter drugs. I get my Zyrtec there, benedryl. I can also get hair clips and bands, travel sized stuff. childrens things, such as pencils, paper, markers.
Art and scrap booking stuff, name brand cleaners, Brooms and dust pans, fairly decent dog treats and toys.
You might be happily surprised, they also have books and some dvds....
You will find something you can use. I go there religiously!

--- give that Dollar Tree card to an animal rescue-group -- they could use it for cleaning supplies and then you would feel 'good' instead of 'not-so-good' about your sister's gift ---

--- gift-giving is about trying to make someone happy --

I would kill for 25.00 to spend at the dollar tree, hehe. Imagine all the wonderful useless crap you can get! I think papertowels would be a good thing to buy--or A LOT of plastic containers. Can never have enough containers!!!!!
