We're all hatchin'! Congrats, everyone!

LOL, my eggs are great!!! From what I can tell....I have a small cluster of veins on my duck eggs, and my 3 white chicken eggs are JUMPING LIKE CRAZY!!! I think they're about ready to see what my house is like....they want some yummy chick starter...LOL!!!! I'm SOOOOO excited!!!

How's everyone else??? Ack, I can't believe I have 4 days left before I get to freak out!!! I wasn't nervous when I first started them, but now I can feel it coming on!!!

Breathe, everyone....Ooosa....LOL!!!

I hadn't planned on having more attempts this spring....but I received 6 silkie eggs 3 months early(ordered) so whats a girl to do? I set them and now I am on day 13. My temps are fluctuating all over. I am gonna move them to the basement, I guess, just don't think the cats will leave them alone. So

maybe I will get one. Candled 5 of the 6 are moving but.... don't have much hope.

Check out this thread....I don't know if you're using a wiggler or not, but this is how I got mine to steady up:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=198954

When I first started my 'bator, I noticed that there was a quick drop/jump in the water wiggler temp when the light was on. I had an epiphany, and this is what solved the problem:

I got aluminum foil and some hardware cloth and made a little bulb guard that enclosed the bulb on all sides but the top (out of hardware cloth). Then I got the foil and covered the guard on the front, bottom and right side, leaving the top and left side open to prevent overheating and a fire hazard. This made it so that the eggs were not in direct light, and any heat they got was from the air and not from sitting in the light of a 40watt bulb. Not only did my temps stabilize, but I realized that my thermostat was way too low without the direct light, and ever since my temps have stayed within .5 degree of 99.5, usually closer to .3 of a degree (aside from the usual temp spikes/drops here and there just to give me a heart attack). It also helped stabilize my humidity, and made it MUCH easier to regulate/increase/decrease.

Anyways, hope this helps! I'm sure someone else has already come up with this, but just thought I'd post it anyway!!!

Just got home!!! How's everyone's eggs doing??? I candled my white eggs and those little babies are jumping like none other! I think my bantam eggs aren't gonna make it, I only incubated 2 but I feel bad cause I think they're pretty much doomed. I'm still hoping, though!!! I work from noon to 9, so I can't stay on long tonight, but I'll be around!!!

Updates, everyone!!!

I have been having mine actually hatching today!!
See my thread on this forum "Hatching!!!!!!"
If you want!
Wheeeeee

I took a quick peek at mine while adding water to the bator, and I still have 7 looking really good. The eighth is still hard to tell if it's alive or not, so I'm just going to let it keep cooking for now.

The eggs are really getting full of the chicks and it's getting harder to see movement. Even the veins are becoming more obscure. I won't lock things down til Thursday night and hope by the end of the weekend we have new chicks to show off.
