Western saddle = dangerous

Im a western guy the first time I rode horses with my wife the horse spooked started bucking I held on for about 10sec untill I hit the horn on my inner thigh really really close to where I would have cried like a baby, so I climbed back on rode to the barn and proceded to check myself for damage and I ended up with a black and blue soft ball bruise that everytime I walked certaint things would brush against it and cause me pain because it was so tender. The horse I own now thinks she needs to jump every creek we come to I let go of the reins and grab the sadle horn so I dont injure important stuff!

I'm a western girl, through and through- reining and barrel racing are my passions(ssh, don't tell anyone I kinda enjoy dressage, too!), but saddle horns are dangerous. As evidence:

(I've tried resizing this thing 3 times... sorry about the huge image!)

I got spiked into the dirt by an obnoxious stallion and nailed the saddle horn on my way down. I've had some graceful falls, but this wasn't one of them.
