What are some pain relievers for ducks that don’t require a prescription?

I sincerely hope and pray that anything I have posted has NOT in any way steered you in the wrong direction. I'm not a vet and I only posted what I'd come across. I think you would be wise to check out post 28060 by Leah's mom...

This is a chicken there, but Leah's mom wrote that she has not touched it or treated it at all because she didn't want to injure her bird any further, which is, I believe Miss Lydia's concern as well.

Thought I'd also chime in and say that Aoxa here on byc had a little chicken that fell into a water bucket and got frostbite on the feet. She brought her in and only used coconut oil on them. Nothing else.

I know she documented it in the Natural Chicken Keeping thread and I think a couple other places. The coconut oil is anti-fungal and anti-septic and is good inside and out without any of the drug issues.

Vetricyn is dacon's solution which used a bleach/baking soda combination (if I remember correctly) and can be made at home. http://www.virginia.edu/uvaprint/HSC/pdf/09024.pdf

But I think I'd opt for the coconut oil. Just my opinion and for what it's worth :D

I was only able to find Aoxa's "tribute" video that she did for Margaret. PM her if you want more details...I know the photos are out there.

It's kind of an emotional video due to the fire...as you'll see.

Leahs Mom, thank you for sharing the video. I've seen Aoxa's story many times. The fire was such a tragedy... but Margret's story is inspiring.

Yesterday night I decided to leave the wrapping off to let his feet get some air. This may have been a bad thing... His right foot has turned rock hard. He's definitely going to lose it. There isn't any living tissue left.

However, there may be some hope for his left foot. It's purple, but it's still holding together and when I hold it up to the light, I can see a few blood vessels in the webbing.

He is overall much happier. Perhaps he can't feel them anymore? Or maybe it's because he's now in a large pen in the heated garage with his girlfriend and a few other birds that are struggling with our winter weather.

Just want to give you a hug for taking such good care of him and giving him a fighting chance.
