Well sour you have to admit that Hat isnt a good neck protector....:gig

It's kept the noose from sliding around my neck.

So Sour, I guess I could be a redneck as well. Does it matter if you have a college degree?

College degrees can not eliminate a 'redneck' classification - I am proof of that.

Wait a minute, “good ole boy?” Can a girl be a redneck?

Absolutely. It is not gender restricted.

That's what came to mind when I was watching the Zarkova video, She mentioned that the governments of the world need to cooperate and store up food for their populaces while there's still time to get them through the little ice age she thinks is coming. That will never happen, and she admitted as much.

btw, I came across a dehydrated food supplier that sells non-GMO, no MSG, no HFCS, no trans fat, vegetarian food, and you can buy on subscription where you get a 20% discount and they send you whatever you want every 30-90 days. You can change what they send you and how often after you subscribe.
now that you mention government involvement, the nation's government did get involved

A sometimes derogatory name given to 'country folk' with their sunburned red necks from working in the outdoors. It is a term that I embrace and wear with honor.

I worked in a research environment with people with many degrees. Degrees do not amount to common sense and with scientists frequently lead to limited scope of vision. On my exit interview the only negative I shared was that the company tended to equate scientific capability with managerial ability and that most frequently they are contradictory.

People say this common sense thing a lot but my response is that my common sense told me to get a degree.

So I guess that leaves out retired government worker and disabled vet? So we should all rise above the small minded people and embrace being a redneck.

Sorry, I must have missed it. This thread is becoming very unweildy! But it's true, cooperation will be very important, and we certainly see it in times of natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and hurricanes. People may arm themselves and say they will guard their food supply to the last bullet, but that doesn't seem to be what really happens. When our neighbirs or even strangers are hurting, we get in there and help. We fill sandbags, we bind wounds, we dig for bodies, we hold and comfort one another. Humans have a strong sense of community and I believe, in any "coming crisis," this is what we will continue to do. It's just who we are. And I thank God for it.
:goodpost:

So I looked up EM pulses and yes it sounds a bit dire, but I have enough trust in our government both state and federal that they have some kind of emergency plans in place. So I’ll continue with my original practice of trying to keep a year’s supply of provisions on hand. Learning about available food stuffs in different regions is interesting

Aha! I figured out why we have different numbers.

SSA publishes a booklet that explains all about it. Of course, it's more complicated than you or I thought! It's much easier to read (in a nice little chart) in the booklet, which is https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10536.pdf

Essentially, as you make more (Modified Adjusted Gross Income), you pay more, after $85,000. As you make a lot more, you pay a LOT more.

The standard Part B premium for 2019 is $135.50. If you’re single and filed an individual tax return, or married and filed a joint tax return, the following chart applies to you:

Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI)

Part B monthly premium amount

Prescription drug coverage monthly premium amount

Individuals with a MAGI of $85,000 or less

Married couples with a MAGI of $170,000 or less

2019 standard premium= $135.50

Your plan premium

Individuals with a MAGI above $85,000 up to $107,000

Married couples with a MAGI above $170,000 up to $214,000

Standard premium + $54.10

Your plan premium + $12.40

Individuals with a MAGI above $107,000 up to $133,500

Married couples with a MAGI above $214,000 up to $267,000

Standard premium + $135.40

Your plan premium + $31.90

Individuals with a MAGI above $133,500 up to $160,000

Married couples with a MAGI above $267,000 up to $320,000

Standard premium + $216.70

Your plan premium + $51.40

Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI)

Part B monthly premium amount

Prescription drug coverage monthly premium amount

Individuals with a MAGI above $160,000 up to $500,000

Married couples with a MAGI above $320,000 up to $750,000

Standard premium + $297.90

Your plan premium + $70.90

Individuals with a MAGI equal to or above $500,000

Married couples with a MAGI equal to or above $750,000

Standard premium + $325.00

If you’re married and lived with your spouse at some time during the taxable year, but filed a separate tax return, the following chart applies to you:

Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI)

Part B monthly premium amount

Prescription drug coverage monthly premium amount

Individuals with a MAGI of $85,000 or less

2019 standard premium= $135.50

Your plan premium

Individuals with a MAGI above $85,000 up to $415,000

Standard premium + $297.90

Your plan premium + $70.90

Individuals with a MAGI equal to or above $415,000

Standard premium + $325.00

Your plan premium + $77.40

Maybe I shouldn't have copied all that. It's impossible to make sense of without looking at the chart. </end dumb Medicare premiums>
Crazy!
