What are you canning now?

I can only suggest using the tartest sour cherries you can find. If you use a no sugar pectin don't expect to get much shelf life from it. Make a small batch and eat it before 3 or 4 months has passed.

I bought those also at Walmart last year. I haven't canned with them yet as I was too sick with my Colitis last year. I plan to use them for crabapple jelly this go around.

But they sure are pretty for gift giving, then you don't have to stack them in your pantry

I buy mineat Albertsons.I use them for pincushion crafts that I sell at craft fairs.I put together little sewing kits in them- I sell them for $4.50 and people just love them.As for canning in them I use them for huckleberry jam and tayberry jam.I don't gift them because I pay $5.00 for a 4pack of them and I never get them back.

I prefer the traditional jelly glasses - the old fashioned quilted ones. I do not like those 1/4 quarts. They are 5x the cost of other jars.

Ok I will not use them for jams ... crafting only for those type of jars. I will check around for them hopefully they have them for my own use and a few for Xmas gifts.

I love jams and jellys but the problem, is the storage time. We do not heavily consume grape jelly...with apple butter, no problem, every morning, put on a THICK slather on toast or waffles and the jar will be gone in a week.

If you can the old fashion way with full sugar and no short cuts in jars seal for the pantry shelf your jams and jellies have a minimal 2 year shelf life. You could can every other spring and summer from the fruits you like best.

I think TerrieLacy cans her beets every two years.

I use the low sugar recipes for Jam and then freeze it, peach, strawberry and cherry does very well in my freezer. I do not use the freezer jam recipes. I also do grape jam. Blackraspberry jelly does not last so long that it would spoil. Gloria Jean
Ps I always sterlize my jars and lids even when I am going to freeze the jam. It stays longer in the frig. that way.
