What are you canning now?

QUICK,  information.

This is the second box of Ball Dissolvable Labels and have them not be good. The label comes off without the glue.  Further inspection of the box says "best used within 12 months of purchase".  What I don't know is how long they've been sitting on the shelf since they are NOT dated.

I purchased these like the others at TSC and will return them.  I expect they will refund my money but how can we avoid this from happening again if there is no date?

Just thought you should know so you don't make the same mistake twice like I did.  :th

Carry on,

Rancher

ps. I did contact Ball and will post their response if I get one.

Thank you for the info. How frustrating!

I just print my own labels using Avery labels and put them on the lids as the lids get pitched anyway. OR if in a hurry, I'll just write on lid with a sharpie.

Sorry that should be DD, not DW.  She and hers moved down for her teaching job.   She had tried to get farm raised eggs when they lived in the Woodlands.  I found someone who said they would bring them some but they never did.   My GS loved my eggs and she wanted to feed him farm/pastured chicken eggs.

In either case :welcome

I know that chickens aren't allowed in the woodlands; I work there.

If DD still can't find eggs this Spring, let me know. My bunch should start laying around April. They're srill in the brooder right now.

If she wants to keep a flock, have her look at the regulations real close. I have never heard that Chickens aren't allowed within Conroe city limits. Unless it's a neighborhood HOA thing...

Thanks for the welcome!

I do this too, but if I am to sell them a nice label looks good. I have DW write them out since she has much nicer hand writing.

( In a side note. I noticed my sister and I have similar hand writing. We both had the same teacher so I wonder if that is why. )

I never thought of printing my own labels, but won't be buying Ball brand anymore.

She will never have chickens but she does like to feed her son healthy food. We (you and I ) both know pasture fed chickens lay healthier eggs.

I let my crew free range--- they love digging in the leaves these days. Looking, looking, looking. There is always the lawn. I know who the good grazers are!!

We need more young people with your dughters common sense.

Pickled 2 dozen eggs in 2 jars.

Great thing about printing your own is that you can pick the font you want and add a graphic/logo.

I use the Avery 2" for regular mouth and Avery 2-1/2" for wide mouth. Should be able to find both at the local office supply store. They come in glossy and flat finish in a variety of colors.

As for getting the adhesive goo off of the jars, peanut butter works great. Slather some on and let it set overnight. Then just wipe it off.

Just finished filtering and bottleing a batch of elderberry tincture for the wife.

Apple Pie Moonshine is cooling. Then I just have to add the moonshine, bottle, and wait a month for yummy goodness.

I use the avery labels that are 2x4 for the sides of my jars. Since I sell my jams & need to put a lot of info on the labels. For the top of the jar, I use a little 1/2"x1 3/4" just to be able to identify the jars while they are in the boxes.

I also use the avery program and can out a cute picture on the label.

For those of you who sell their canned goods, are any of you in OH and can direct me to a website or resource that has information on what can be sold and what kinds of requirements the state puts on small-time sellers?
