What are you canning now?

I so missed my garden this year. This was the first year since I was 3 years old I did not have a garden. The lack of rain and fires just devastated the land. This was the first year I have lost trees, 3 apple and some pecans.

DW put up last batches of applesauce last night and slow-cooked a batch of apple butter overnight. I'm thinking there's a good chance Heaven will smell like the house did this morning.

My mother just put up, 14 pints of Pear Mincemeat...sent home 1 pint with me...it was so good!
I haven't anything new to report though!
We will be canning soup next week, a little birdie told me drumsticks and wings were going on sale!

Ah I'm sorry! Most my land is to wet for fruit trees. But to have them and then loose them to weather... so sorry. I hope next year is better for you

Ohhh I hear ya! I watered a couple trees that I just couldn't bear to lose. And didn't water the trees and roses that I certainly don't mind losing at all. Of course the unwatered ones are growing like weeds now. Ugh. But the ones I watered are doing well too. I miss having actual grass in the yard though. We finally got almost 5" of rain a couple weeks ago and naturally my apple tree is blooming.

There are drawbacks to having to grow low chill fruit for sure!

Not canning anything right now. But at least I have room to put the stuff when I do. Picked up a shelf thingie out of the garbage ( LOL! ) that had a broken leg. Fixed the leg, added shelves and viola! A place for my future canning!

I so miss the chow chow, beans, peas. One good thing is I have enough to last for a year with last years stuff.

I am so Jealous of all those with apple producing trees. . . . Last year, I planted apple trees . .. . but I don't know of too many folks in this area that are successful with them. Before that, I tried to grow nectarine trees for many years no success. I did plant a "baking" pear tree. I do think I might get fruit from that one. I have been successful with plum trees

Probably because you don't get enough cold. Most apples need 500-600 chilling hours. (and they take 5-6 years to produce apples) Look for fruit trees with low chilling hours.

I didn't get any apples either this year, due to snow on almost every tree as it bloomed. No plums, no pluots and very few nectarines this year. Peaches did great though!
