What are you canning now?

What formula for the dog food did you end up using? Let us know how they like it ;)

Well there eating it good, actually my boxer must a been a wolf in his previous life, he wolfed it down too fast and almost made himself sick..LOL
they do love meat and I wish I had enough always on hand to feed raw, but right now that isn't practical or affordable......
But anyway, I just used all my scrap I kept for sausage that I didn't yet make about 50 lbs worth hehe..... to that I added organic brown rice, carrots, green beans, and some leftover squash.......... I didn;t do the eggs because I always make scrambled for my chickens and the dogs get some every other day anyway. I will also give them their vitamins with the food, but was afraid of what the long hot cook time would do to it.......... so that was all I used. Not sure why it smells weird though maybe just how canned meat smells I never did meat before...... any idea's...

Can you freeze things in canning jars or are canning jars strictly for canning and storing in your cabinet?

I was at WalMart and saw a set of Better Home and Gardens12 pint jars on sale for $5.00 and was curious to know if these canning jars are freezer safe.

The BHG jars are made in China just and FYI I haven't used them but have heard reports of them cracking and breaking easily. The lids are crap. I bought some that were clearanced $1 per dozen and had 2 failures out of 7! Plus 2 of the rings wouldn't tighten down on a standard ball jar. There has been reports that Made in China glass has lead in it...

OK, cuz I love recipes I'm gonna read all 631 pages. But right now I'm hoping for a recipe. About 20 years ago I was taught to make something called 7 day sweet pickles. They are almost a candied pickle, nothing like a jerkin. Now I can't find recipe and can't remember 'exactly' how to do it. It involved draining off the juice every day, adding more sugar, heating the syrup and adding back to the cukes. I did a search and the only thing I saw was BockBock2008 talking about being on day 12 of icecycle pickles, might be similar.

Anyone here know what I'm talking about and have a recipe...........or something that might be similar? I would be eternally grateful.

I'll have to look for mine, it's more than 7 days, but it's a really good sweet pickle recipe. My step dad makes them, so I usually don't have to. You brine them for so many days, then do the syrup and can them.

Today I made some Lavender Blueberry Marmalade, and some Blood Orange Marmalade.
Tomorrow: Raspberry Blueberry Jam, and a Wine & Herb Jelly.
Probably a Blackberry something, too.
I just got a ton of berries from a farmer friend & am helping her can them. The Wine & Herb Jelly is just for kicks, so is the Blood Orange Marmalade.
