I just started with bees this year. It seems overwhelming when you are researching, but I'm finding they really don't take that much time. If you have a beekeepers club near you, you can rent honey extractors. We haven't harvested as our hive is still growing and they need 70 lbs of honey stores to make it through winter. A friend of ours has harvested honey and he says it's just takes a day. If you aren't ready to harvest when the box is full, you can just add another box and the bees will work on filling that. Then when you have the time, you remove the box and harvest.
Got a bunch of plums and apricots yesterday from my husbands grandmothers trees. They are a hair under ripe, so hopefully by Sunday I can make some jam. We are leaving Monday for vacation for a week.
