Congrats, Lerker. Both on leaving the lurking behind with your first chicks, and with getting the buff orps. There's a reason they're one of the most liked breeds on this forum.

They all arrived good, chirpy and healthy. A few were lethargic. They threw in 1 extra, making my grand total 15. I have not lost ANY! This is my first time with chicks and I am 11. I introduced them to shavings last night and they had a party! Not joking! I woke up and their waterer was FILLED, with shavings, the whole bottom part! They scratched and squirmed and slept and jumped! lol
They have fought over a couple stinkbugs, and they like to jump and flap their wings, they think they fly!
Whenever I put my hand in their brooder they all run around chirping! lol
A few have pasty butt.. I am waiting to buy more eggs so I can treat it naturally. I cleaned one today. When I picked him/her up to put him/her back in the brooder s/he started pecking at me!! I love them!
Thanks. Oh yeah, I got chick grit and sprinkled it over their food today.

Get whole quick cooking oats and grind them up in a blended till they are tiny and put some in you hand once a day and into the brooder and let them eat out of your hand it will help them become friendly with you...talk to them while doing it..![]()
IN ABOUT 6 DAYS YOUR GONNA WANT A PAPER PLATE AND PAPER TOWELS UNDER THAT WATERER TO KEEP IT CLEANER LONGER..then push it to the back of the plate.. IM LEARNING THIS.. LOL AS MINE ARE NOW 6 DAYS OLD... and i think id rather have sand over the pine shavings... they are kicking it into the waterer and feeder constantly.. when i put sand in there it seems to be less messy.. at 6-10 days old they will start scratching like krazy!
