Well, i would describe it as kinda a hi-tech treasure hunt lol. you have to have some sort of a GPS unit. but basically what ya do is you get a set of grid coordinates and put them into your gps unit and just follow where it takes you to lol. usually it is some out of the way scenic place or some place of historic significance or it could be just a really cool spot somewhere. They are rated for everyone from kids and seniors to more demanding, there is a rating system as well. Its actually quite fun and a great way to get out with family and friends, get a little exercise and see somethings that you normally wouldnt get a chance to see or even think about. then when ya get there its like "this is really cool!" they could be in citys, or out in the country...and i guaranty you that there is a cache within 5 miles of anyone here.

I use to do a lot of crocheting a few years ago. I'm 31. I don't think it matters how old you are.
I have taken up oil painting. I take a class once a week. Oil painting runs in my family so I thought maybe I have the talent too.
I am very outdoorsy. We have 4-wheelers and we live in the moutains so we do a lot of camping, 4-wheelin, boating, fishing etc... I have 2 kids 8 y/o and 6 y/o. They keep me busy. I substitute teach at the high school and Jr. High. I love it. I love to read. And right now I am reading the Bible. I have been a Christian my whole life and never read the entire bible so I have given my self a year to do so. My dead line to have it read is this Easter.
And now I have 7 beautiful chicks and almost finished building our coop.

I completely understand about public school grief. This past school year was our first year for homeschool. My boys just completed 7th and 3rd grade. Both of my boys struggled with completing homework. Which ticked me off because I figure they have my children 7 hours a day then they send them home with 2 hours or more of homework. I looked at their homework and got even more riled up because most of it was what I called "busy" work. Some of it was completely lame!! So their grades were dropping and we were getting frustrated. Then towards the end of the school year I received an envelope from the school my oldest son was attending. In that envelope was a letter stating that my son would have to attend summer school or he would not pass onto the 7th grade. In that same envelope was his state test scores. He tested out at "above advanced" in all subjects!!!! That was my final deciding factor right there! I remember turning to my husband and waving the papers in the air and saying "That's it! I'm homeschooling! They want Connar to either go to summer school or repeat 6th grade then here's his test scores, ABOVE ADVANCED in ALL subjects!!"
Now I'm not saying that our first year here at home was a piece of cake. We had good days and bad days. But this is what I say, "A bad day at homeschool beats a good day at public school" (just my own twist on the fishing and work quote)

Well........... I should have been a man

I think a lot of people are going back and starting to home school agian. I got a letter in the mail the other day and it was from the school I had my duaghter in. It was some showing how well the school did on the state testing, compared to the other schools in the state. And they had the lowest score in the entire state!! That is very sad. Anyway I know a lot of people that have taken their kids out,or are planning on taking their kids out and home schooling them. It is very hard at times to do, and some days I wondered if I was going to either strangle her or hang myself before the year was over, but it was worth it. I think a lot more parents would do it. But they dont either dont think they are smart enough to do it, are worried that their kids wont have any freinds, or dont think they have the itme. Here at home we can get the biggest part of her school work done in about 3 to 4 hours. Then she usually reads on her own for awhile. And she is done and playing way before the public schools get out. We are going through the k12 program. And its great, They give us the books and supplements like clay, musical insturments, and art supplies. They send us a computer if we need one and they pay our most of our internet service. I really like the curriclum she does a lot of her work on the inter net, Like science, history, and some math. And the lesson are interactive, she gets to play math games, and the science and history always has things she can click on that will show her things like the human body, each time she clicks on it she can see how they move. All I had to do is be the teacher, and we only had to worry about suppiling her with materials like pencils, paper, and ink for the printer. At the end of every year any thing they want returned they mial you the lables and pay for the shipping. If you need help they offer teachers that can assist you. I really liked it and plan to keep doing it with all our kids. We are getting ready for Erin and I to take an art class, we want to learn to sketch so I think here in a couple weeks we will start doing that about once a week. We make sure that our kids find hobbies they like to do and help them achieve their goles on hobbies they try. And I have found it fun to do things with the kids. It makes grear family time to do things like this together.

If my kids were little, five girls, I would have done this. At first, I thought you had to be qualified to home teach..didn't know it was so easy and honestly, the kids learn more and don't have to deal with peer pressure. They can interact with other kids in lots of social events and church. You moms are doing a wonderful job! don't have to worry about what they are going to wear either now do you? ha God Bless you all.

I do Traditional Paper Scrapbooking, Cardmaking, Digital Scrapbooking, Digital Designing(hobby), Decorative Painting, Woodworking, Gardening, Photography and love to sit and do stitchery work, other than that I happily sit out on a garden chair in the chicken yard that we built and just watch our 60 feathered darlings do their thing LOL
