I expect a small turnover as broodies raise new small clutches to replace those flock members who move or pass on during the year, keeping the flock around 15-20, but all home bred birds this year, rather than buying hatching eggs.
Yeah, this idea is one of our/my goals that I might not of clearly stated but, before I let the silkie "pancake it up" I have to get the coops interior mod's done over the next couple weeks. The Easter & olive(?) Eggers are starting to drop eggs slowly as are Big Gray Momma. Ideally, I'd like one more big Gray girl, 1+ red & 1+ of the EE/OE to hatchout hens in the spring....

Maybe next year I'll be ready to try for some Brahma hens again.

I love this poll!

I plan to do a lot of hatching and buying chicks. I would like to buy around 40 day-old chicks and sell them at the age of 6 weeks. I plan on getting turkeys and several new breeds of chickens! :celebrate

I'll let my pair of pigeons breed if they wish, and maybe get Homers.

I'll fix up that old coop my neighbor gave me, and maybe sneak in a few more coops 🤫

I am going to start a Black Soldier Fly farm for the chickens and growing fodder (though I'll probably start this before the end of the year). My goal is to cover all feed costs and get profit just by hatching and raising poultry.

Yep, it'll be a busy and fun year :wee
How do you plan on making the fly farm? Sounds intriguing!

I've been waiting half the year for two specific breeds. They will finally get here in spring. Also need a larger incubator and seriously eyeing the Brinsea Ova Easy 100. My plan for 2020 was to increase my flocks and pens which I've done. I've learned a lot about what breeds I want to work with and where I'd like to take them. 2021 will be refining on what I've done so far. Wishing everyone a happy, prosperous and safe 2021. ❤

What a fun poll! My three seem to be the three most popular too 😂

More chickens(and therefore some new breeds), as well as coop/run developments. I’m surprised more people aren’t planning changes to the living quarters, tbh!

We’re getting 15 new birds to bring our flock to 24. Started with 12, lost three to predation.

Also will be installing linoleum on the chicken coop floor and an automatic chicken door... and, if we can get around to it, a rainwater collection system. Our coop isn’t in a place that could be piped from our well without substantial costs, so we currently hand haul water 300 feet uphill.

In the run(which is rugged and sloped, like all of our property, we will be adding sections of logs and large fat posts in the ground to create stair step terracing. One thing I did not anticipate was that everything the girls kicked up during their daily scratching would roll downhill and pile up against their run fencing! Hopefully the terraces will prevent that!

No. More. Chicken. Math.

... probably.

... at least I’m going to try my hardest.

We only went from 10 to 12 to 14. And from zero coops to two coops, and about to build number 3. All in our first year.

This has been an amazing journey, and I’m excited to continue it!

Everything else is crazy right now, and I’m glad I have my flock to help keep me busy throughout all of it.

My goal is to hatch more chicks. I am breeding for show. This year was my first year hatching chicks. Once they were old enough to pick the breeders ,I wished I had more to choose from. Therefor I need to hatch more. Got myself another large incubator. Notice the word "another"?? :lau
I am considering adding white Sulmtaler to my wheaten Sulmtaler. It would be just one breeding group though but I would be working with other breeders to keep fresh blood coming in. I'm considering! Nothing is set yet. It's a space issue. *sigh*
Another goal I have is to grow some more gras in the chicken runs. At least try.

Let's hope for the best... and let's hope that the shows will happen again in 2021!!

I'm planning to make my own mixed breed called a buff egger in the spring or summer, whenever the weather warms up.
The Buff Egger mix will consist of these breeds, EE/Red Star/Buff Brahma.
The mother I am hoping will be my EE/Red star mix hen Freya, to my BB rooster Bo.
Both are around a year old and pretty healthy, so I'm crossing my fingers that everybody makes it through the usual freezing winters!
