You're right, the more I see pics of OEGs the less Millie looks like them!
They have such big eyes and the tail isn't the same.
Looks like I may be narrowing it down to either a mutt or BL, and I think she looks exactly like the BL on Feathersite!!
Mudhen,
I had no idea the Fairfax, Va. animal shelter took on chickens!!!! How long ago did you get her? I live just a stone's throw from the shelter!! Do you live in Fairfax County?? I'm going to call them Monday and ask if they have any chickens! Wow!!! Oh, and your hen is adorable though I wouldn't begin to guess what her breed is!
Ellen
birdlover It was a little over three years ago now. A friend of mine knew I was looking for chickens and she found them there while on a cocker spaniel rescue.
I live up in Jefferson County, just a little northwest of Harpers Ferry!
Check them out, who knows if they were ever able to catch all those other hens!!!
Millie looks much like my Lucy, Polly and Bridget. I've been stumped on their breed as well. They lay smallish light tan eggs. My Lucy is a different girl. When we got her, thanks to our black lab, we thought she was a rooster as she has spurs on both legs, crows, caws, and rarely lays. We were totally new to chickens a year ago. I should have named her Bossy Flossy.
Well the white earlobes are a characteristic that OEG do not have, providing that they are full blood. I would guess a brown leghorn or brown leghorn cross.
Like Dustin stated, witht he white earlobes,..I would say Leghorn or Leghorn cross. She might also be some sort of Dutch cross, they have white earlobes too I believe? But the best bet is Leghorn seeing as she has yellow legs.
RIR or Araucanas(easter egg layers) are the eggs Brown,White, green or blue? Auros can lay green brown or blue -but definitely some rhode island red also
