He looks similar to a Black Copper Marans. He could be a crossbred as well though. Do you know that he is pure? Is he a hatchery bird?

He's probably a Black Copper Marans that's a little off in color. The breast should be black or black with a little copper spotting, but not as much as this guy has.

awesome... so im curious.. what is a hatchery chicken???
funny storry with him... we originally had 7 chicks. one ended up being a rooster. I was completelety against having a rooster. so I asked my neighbor if he wanted him (he had a few... probably to eat...) he agreed . then called an hour later and said "my wife says I should give you 2 hens to replace your rooster" we accepted and us beeing roockies took a couple months before we confirmed that they were both roosters... so we traded one for 2 ... hahaha... well honestly the 2nd one is a Easter and had us fooled until just the other day when I posted him on BYC because he is very ill (believed to have Marecks).when everyone imformed me that it was not a hen but a cockerel... any ways t. by this time This guy has really grown on us and we love him in our family... sadly the other will be put down tomorrow if he makes it that long.
