What breeds do these guys/gal look like?

New Chick, I just traded my barred rock cockerel chicks and this is the one my daughter picked out,
Whats up with the comb? Cockerel or pullet?

I actually got to see that parent flock this time and I'm thinking these are barred barn yard mixes
The rooster had red on his shoulders but other then that he was barred and the hens all varied in size, shape, coloring and comb type
Is this normal for barred rocks? I expected there to be some differences between them but not that much.

There are also black chicks coming out of this all barred flock, can anyone explain to me how that happens?
I'm a genetics nut so this intrigues me. If anyone knows a good source for genetics info I would greatly Appreciate it.
I really don't care what they are as long as they will lay at this point lol I was hoping for pure stock but I have accepted my wonderful barn yard mix flock

That is a pea comb. And seeing how it has 3 ridges it looks like it is a male.

I'll repost pics of the EE's in a week or two, and the barred one has yellow legs with a tiny bit of black on the top of its feet.
I know the guy we got them from had a barred rocks, leghorns, and a type of red chicken running around. He has a few pens set up but his chickens were all free ranging, so sexlink could be possible right? I mean my white leghorn is a mix so maybe they are too.

Im just slightly frustrated because we drove two hours and paid $5 a chick because my husband wanted the brown leghorns and I wanted the barred rocks, but a guy that lives 5 minutes away had some nice barn yard mix chicks( barred rock included in some of them) for $1 each and then my other group of barred rocks I paid $1.50 each and they will replace any roos. So I feel a like I wasted my time/money
Many reputable places will replace the roosters. I would just call and ask.

Yeah that what I was afraid :( My poor little girl keeps picking boys

This one is the replacement, we were actually going off of the tail feathers and the lack of a large comb when we picked these out I didn't notice the comb was a pea comb until we got home
The only other chicks that weren't obviously cockerels she had were solid black so I think I'm just going to try and find some adult hens and go for more chicks in the spring.
I have WAYY to many boys right now I have at least 11 cockerels/roosters out of 22 chickens counting both my adults and chicks.

If those are truly Brown leghorns, they should be girls. Not for sure but....should. I posted pics of mine when I was told she is a welsummer. People said boy because of comb but she's a brown leghorn girl :) our white leghorn girls, I'd have thought they were boys when we first got them, too. Watch those to be sure but again, *should* lol
