What breeds do you wish you had?

FYI
A color variation of a breed is NOT a breed.
I.E a Buff Orpington, Buff Brahma, Black Australorp, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte are not breeds.

Buff, Black and Blue Laced Red are colors

Orpington, Australorp, Brahma and Wyandotte are breeds.

I know, but it's the yellow that attracts me to the one type of Orpington. I'd love for my beagle to have a best friend who was a yellow bird. My current birds want to beat him up.

Buff Orpington is also the name of an online alter-ego of mine on the web.

I was hoping to get Gold Laced Wyandottes when I got mine this past June. The local feed store only had the Silver Laced variety. So far, they are nice chickens, but not as friendly as my others. I have always wanted Delawares as well, but they weren't available at the time, either.

On a last minute whim, I reserved two Silver Laced Polish (because I looked them up and loved their hair - my profile pic is of Sylvia, one of my SLPs). Not regretting getting them one bit, but I do worry how they'll do when everyone is all grown up. Have heard they can be a little more delicate than other breeds.

In truth, however, I have been thinking lately about possibly developing my own breed of chicken, but I'd need more coops/runs and a lot more time and money before I can do that ;). In the mean time, maybe I can do some research so I'm prepared if I ever take that big step.
I have silver-laced Wyandottes too, and I agree. Not too chummy. Not bad chickens at all, but stand-offish. Weird, because my Columbian Wyandottes are the friendliest girls you could ask for.

Ive had, white leghorns, brown leghorns, buff orbs, ee’s, RIR’s, barred rocks, amberlinks, red sexlinks, black sexlinks, silkies, polish, saphire gems, light brahmas, silver & gold laced wyandottes, black Australorps, many bantam breeds, and many that I am probably forgetting, but I wish I have marans, speckled Sussex, and lots of other rare breeds, but I like to go to the feed stores and buy chicks, because I hate doing it online. So every year we go to 5 feed stores and get chicks, so eventually I will find this breeds.
I go to the feed store, tell them what I want, they order it for me and call me when my babies have arrived. You can probably special order, too. Just ask for the person in charge of ordering poultry.

What a fun thread! Oh, geez. I have no idea. At first, I thought I’d pick breeds based on beauty and egg productivity. But them I became a full blown crazy chicken lady and have real LOVE in my heart for them! I like personality and longevity. So I guess I wish I had some beautiful true heritage chickens. I don’t know which breeds, but mine are pets, so they’d have to be at least somewhat docile. It would be super great if there were such a thing as heritage birds that laid colorful eggs, but I’m pretty sure all those cute breeds with puffy cheeks and colorful eggs are not necessarily bred for longevity.

At one point I thought I wanted a barnevelder for looks and sweet disposition, but now I think I’ve learned they are a relatively new breed.

Ok, after all that, I guess I can’t really pick one! Still lots to learn, and I haven’t yet had a breed I didn’t like.

If you have the chance in the future, I would highly recomend! My barred rocks are the sweetest girls I have.

I agree! My 2 Barred Rock Pullets are so gentle and sweet. They hang out with my Buff Orpington Pullet and the 3 of them bring so much enjoyment to every day! My 2 Silver Laced Wyandotte's aren't mean, but they will do about anything to avoid being petted or held/picked up, even though they have been handled multiple times every single day of their lives (except the 2 days it took me to get them)

My 3 Barred Rock pullets are sweeties!! SO GLAD I got Them! I have 2 Sliver Laced Wyandottes (Flighty, bullies, can't pick them up) and 2 Rhode Island Reds ( the top chickens but I can cuddle them anytime). I thought Barred Rocks were ordinary but they are so friendly they come running every time I visit the garden/coop.

Our flocks are similar in breeds and temperments. My 2 Barred Rock Pullets & 1 Buff Orpington Pullet are the sweetest and most gentle ladies! My SL Wyandotte's haven't been aggressive (that I have been witness to) to the other girls or to me, but I have almost given up on ever being able to snuggle them (or even just hold them). I really dislike having to chase & corner them to do a "look & feel" all over exam. Maybe one day they will realize that I'm not going to do anything to hurt them purposely.
