What can we do about unanswered posts?

This thread is about new post with out replys going unanswered. .
Basically I can see the new posts button. . But you click that you get threads with the newest replys on top.. even the ones that have thousands replys.. so popular threads are always seen.and on top.. The unanswered ones get buried. Very quickly. .
So a unanswered button for us app users. Would help alot for those people. .
I can't reply to what I can't see

when I was a newbie and I am sure I wasn't the only one. The search engine sucked. When you are just starting with chickens some of us don't know the "proper terms" for the questions we have. So starting new threads was my only way to get answers. And to be honest I still hate using the search engine on this site. Just my 2 cents worth.

There were 16 pages of unanswered posts with fifty posts to a page when I signed in this morning. I have answered 20 of them today and I know many others have as well and still there are 16 pages of them. I am beginning to think it's a hopeless cause. At least it hasn't increased to 17 pages.

I understand your point. I'm just saying that it seems like to me that every other forum I use works primarily by people clicking on "new posts". If someone is not getting an answer they usually reply to their own thread to get some attention, but that is usually not necessary because so many people are clicking "new posts" as their primary way of engaging in the site throughout the day randomly, that it gets answered right away. I am not sure why the culture of this site is so different.

If I'm really bored I'll just click the new posts link every few minutes, and even my favorites shortcuts to any forum is the new posts link. It's funny because, for example, currently in the Android app I see that people are clicking 'Subscriptions' from the app menu (be aware this is ignoring any clicks on the web menu, because that's captured by the website analytics) almost ten times more than they are clicking 'New Posts'. And, as mentioned, there actually isn't an easy to find link for new posts in the web menu, so one would think they would be using it even more so.

Anyways, if you are a mod or want to help, you don't need to wait for a new app to get a link to unanswered posts, just make the link I posted earlier a favorite in your browser. I do think it is very important people's questions get answered, otherwise they may not think it worth their time to return (and possibly answer someone else's question).

Ya your link worked great I used it helped some people out.. I wouldn't have found them without it.

I used to try and answer the Unanswered Posts and quit just for that reason. Even just responding to the amount of New Member Introductions (along with the time I spend on other Forums such as What Breed or Gender is This?, General Breed Discussion and FAQs, Random Ramblings, and Chicken Breeders and Hatcheries) has become an impossible task for me to respond to them all. Some days I completely skip the last two forums on my list and even with just New Member Introductions and What Breed or Gender is This?, I would have to spend most of the day on the internet just answering questions to get to them all, and I just don't have the time for that as there are too many other things outside of BYC that demand my attention.

You make a good point, Micheal. While greetings are really important, I think answering Unanswered posts may be even more important especially if it's the first time people posted. If they don't get an answer they may never post again.

I had the idea about BYC making a Greeting committee, who then takes over the task of greeting new comers, freeing up more people to help with the unanswered posts. It shouldn't stop people from seeing who is new but it could lighten the task. What do you think?

I think that sounds like a pretty good idea. You might run it by the administrators and see what they think about it.
