What color are these crazy silkies??? Pic intensive.

Ok, my formerly black showgirl has suddenly started developing bleach out spots all over! She's appx 8 weeks old now. What the hey is going on? And what color do you call this now? Stupid Crickett has picked her lovely head poof and her pretty tail poof out. Crickett better'd watch it or his days will be numbered...

Now here is Meringue, who is now looking a little like she's been baked in the oven. What color is this???

What the heck is going on in the coop?

The first one actually looks like a dark blue by the color of the down. I have noticed that some blue silkies go through that splotchy stage when they are that age.

The white one looks like she may have some buff bleeding through.

Thanks! So Celia (the black/blue/blotchy) one is on hold for color definiton. But most likely blue....

But what does buff bleeding through mean in terms of breeding/genetics?

Could it be dominant white instead of recessive? Most silkies are recessvie white. I had read that recessvie white hides everything and dominant white lets red bleed through. (red pyle for example... OMG you're making red pyle Silkies!!!

Thanks again. The blue/black/blotchy one is really lovely in person. Soft and puffy sweet and easy to like, really people friendly. And before the crazy frizzled cochin roo picked her topknot and tail poof out, she was really poofy!

I'm not sure about the quality of Meringue, that's suspect. She is just 6 weeks old so I'm hoping it fluffs up, but she is a little naked on the head. But how to deal with these colors in breeding... that's hard.
