Good morning! For some reason woke up at 430am. That likely means I’ll be drinking a lot of coffee.


Spouse came home with TP! I laughed bc I almost texted to pick some up, since it’s a scarce commodity, but hadn’t texted, so A+ for reading my mind!

@WthrLady, a few years ago an Ohio pharmacist friend was approached by a customer on a price for a whole box of thermometer strips. Their reason for wanting a box of them? They were very serious and concerned about the possible zombie invasion and apparently the first sign of a zombie is an altered temperature (up or down, I’m not sure), so they wanted to be prepared. So, I guess some people just normally live in fear of a zombie invasion!

Some rain and snow the next couple of days, but minimal amounts. A couple of colder nights.
@BReeder! The compost pile isn’t very broken down currently, and is mainly chicken poop and shavings, so we will have to work on getting it going. But, at least now we can pile it up in a more substantial pile, which should aid in the breakdown. Also, we should be able to cover it with some kind of a roof/lid so it shouldn’t dry out as much either. Might take another year until we get some good compost, but it will be worth it.

Morning . Saw a toad yesterday . Spring is coming . A friend had a tree cut down and offered me the wood . So I took the log splitter over . Several days work . Big tree .

Good morning gardeners. I went to the Senior Center yesterday for the big Corned Beef Lunch. The crowd was a little smaller than usual, however it was a nice turnout. I didn't get much done in the garden except I did get some bone meal on the hydrangea and the two tulips popping up next to it. It started raining after midnight and is supposed to be raining until early evening today. This is a good day to catch up on some more cleaning and make some apple crisp. Some chicken soup might not be a bad idea either. I took my last jar of apples out of the freezer. So grocery store apples from now until August. I feel like I'm in a weird science fiction movie every once in a while. Now, nearly all the public schools have closed up for a month. Fortunately my retirement savings is in CD's and not much of that anyway. My vast "fortune" of retirement money comes from Social Security and a small government pension. So I don't believe the stock market crashing will have an effect on that. I'm holding off for at least another week before venturing out looking for essential paper products such as TP, paper towels and tissues. I'm hoping things will start settling down by then. Right now I'm concerned about whether or not I'll be able to buy dirt for my new garden bed and lumber and HC for my chicken coop addition. Does that sound shallow? I hope not. Back to gardening, I plan on getting some more seeds started today. I just need to do some furniture shifting in the sunroom first. I may finally plant some mesculin mix also. Your all makin me jealous on seed startin !! Not quite time here yet but thats great for u all. Day off today but daddy daycaring it, on the bright side its 50°F out partly cloudy an nice a windy!! Helpin dry that ground up a little once i tidy up some domestic duties (laundry) I think ill draw up a pre garden map/plan if the littles allow it. Anyone have any tips or pointers on soil prep for blueberrie bushes so far i have the holes dug an mixed up with chicken poo...

Blueberry bushes like acidic soil. Have you tested? If you have pine trees or rhododendrons growing near the area you are preparing them the soil is likely acidic. And this is the usual time for seed starting. I like my plants to be somewhat grown a bit before planting outside.

Saw a toad yesterday .

Oh! I hope the frogs are still in our pond. Before we added the ducks last year, frogs randomly showed up in our pond during the Spring floods that occurred. They likely were pushed out of the river banks a mile or two away by the flooding and migrated to our backyard. The grew quite large and were a fun thing to look for with DS when we would go to feed the koi. After adding the ducks we didn't see the frogs as much. They started coming out just at night mostly as they seemed to fear the ducks, who were out during the day splashing in the pond. It would be a bit sad if the frogs do not return. I'm hoping the managed to hibernate in the dirt or whatever or they do. It would be really neat to see tadpoles this Spring, although the koi would likely make a quick meal out of them.

It tested PH of 7 even, i know i have to lower it so i added the chicken poo an mixed it around im gonna get them as bushes, just other than chicken poo i wasnt sure what else i could add to lower it an have it not be to acidic by the time i plant them im hoping to have them in may June if i can get the soil right

I'm not certain I'll get much done outside this weekend or next. It's going to be cold this weekend and then wet next weekend.
