I love how well the fall planting is going, once I can pull the rest of the tomatoes I'll have even more room for shallots and garlic.Planted 10 Broccoli plants 2 days ago. Looking really good so far.
I'll have to get that and a big scalding pot for the meat birds too but probably not till next year.@NewBoots maybe try a propane burner outside. I use one when I scald chickens for plucking and for all my canning. Don’t want to crack the stove top for sure.
DP planted 4 elderberries this last spring, once they start producing I'll pick your brain for good uses.I did get a batch of elderberry syrup made yesterday though. That stuff reeks when it simmers but not too bad once it has some honey and vodka in it; i used a recipe with cinnamon and ginger in it this year.

And I'm so glad you are getting comfortable temperatures. It’s fantastic outside at 65 degrees!
I always got sick from the flu shot as well. It turns out I was having a reaction to both the preservatives (which they no longer use) and a protein strand in it, which IS still there, but is far less worse for me than the actually flu, so I deal with it.Sorry to burst your bubble @CluckerFamily , but you cannot catch the flu from the flu shot. Google it if you don’t believe me. Whatever you are coming down with is either purely coincidental or a reaction to something in the shot. You may have allergies that you are not aware of. But it is not the flu. You should speak with your doctor about your concerns. But this year with the coronavirus floating around in the air it seems like the smart thing to do whatever you can to not get sick from anything. Just saying!
Also, I didn’t get out to water the cuttings of heather I took so those are gone and I’m not going to bother right now. Too many other things going on at the moment. I dumped some bunny poop around the little tree thing to spur some growth, it’s slowly coming back after the chickens had a go at it but I wanted to give it a boost.I’m putting in for a Friday off and a three day weekend will help so I can get some outside stuff accomplished with hubs. I have a few weeds to pull so I watered those too. I need to transplant a few Mexican poppies still, maybe this afternoon when the house is cleaned up some more. We have a Eureka vacuum and we haven’t been able to find filters in the store so had to order them from Amazon. Hubs just vacuumed the house and it doesn’t smell like dog, yay! I need to swap the prefilter on the air purifier in our room and give the pups a bath while hubs washes our sheets. Temps at night are at the point that we need to leave our bathroom window open or it gets too warm in our room, but the a/c doesn’t kick on because it’s not hot. The dogs are heaters! I put the boys to work dusting and cleaning up their messes this morning and getting their chores done early. They were up late and woke hubs at 0130 and he was pretty angry so they’re on cleaning detail until we say they’re done. I think I’ll send them out to pull the weeds while I stay in the house. No sense in me getting sweaty when I have a labor force paying off a debt
I’m still undecided as to what I should plant between the Mexican poppies and a bird of paradise. That area gets some brutal sun in summer so I’d like a good sized bush to shade the elephant ears a bit on summer mornings, but I’m not sure how a fairy duster would do there or how that would look. Tropical and desert together? I could put one of the poppies on that side as a break between the two...
