What did you do in the garden today?

Longevity does run in my family...

Most of my beds are covered, frost cloth though, what's the difference ( row cover vs. frost blanket )

Yes, something is doing that to my mache. I've got beer traps, DE and BT going out there but need to identify the critter. I was hoping not to use row cover but will revisit that in a few days. Meanwile, ice the eye and then get after some weeds. I definitely need a better watering scheme up there. It's a nuisance schlepping that soaker hose around.

Oh that's crappy, heal up

I got hay bits in one eye today... Felt great...
I just sprayed and covered again... Bit of DE, hay mulch in some spots... I'll finish the hay layer tomorrow... It sucks, I don't want to kill the "good" bugs... May need to order some neem oil...

No flea beetle in the greenhouse but a few tomatillos have this going on... I removed the affected leaves, sprayed and used DE in the drier spots... Is this a type of aphid causing this?
That looks like damage from a caterpillar. Look around for some tomato hornworms. They blend in very well, and may be small enough now that you may not easily see them.

Re: flea beetles: I never have enough damage from them, (though the beetles are plentiful) that it's worth doing anything about. My worst pests: Japanese beetles, and potato beetle, squash bugs. Also: slugs. Though... for some reason, in spite of the heavy rains, the slugs aren't very plentiful this season.

My garden is about 48'x15', with raspberries on the left. This is my second summet here, and I've put in t-posts to tie up the berries. So glad I did. They are huge. At the back end of the right side I've put in t-posts to make a trellis for the tomatoes and need to get out there soon to run wire to tie them up. Teepees are for beans, zucchini, climbing spinach (if it decides to germinate) and peas. The picture of mache shows what I think are aphids. I'm hoping to recover enough to spray them off before they grow some more.

Pulled some tiny weeds, suckered tomatoes, pruned some taters and also put mulch hay around them to build their hill. Scattered pelleted lime throughout the garden to get rid of the bag...it's been sitting around here for a year now. Transplanted some lavender and tickseed into the garden, along the fence line. Pulled an extra squash and transplanted it elsewhere. Planted three seeds for birdhouse gourds by my trellis arch over the gate.

Then I just looked upon it and grinned, thanking God for all the rain, the hot weather and the growth I see there.
