What did you do in the garden today?

Hey all, I've got a lot to catch up on! Been super busy this week.

Tonight is supposed to be the last cold night for the foreseeable future. I went out & checked the garden beds, they are thawed! The black plastic is really helping. They didn't get the inch plus of water we got yesterday too so that's good, the soil is pretty workable. I'm going to start on the hoops & get the lettuce in the ground tomorrow. I'm also going to get the onion sets in too, they are looking pretty healthy sitting in water but I want them out of the kitchen window.

I was very distracted this week & neglected my seed trays. Some stuff got super leggy so I fed them to the chickens & started new seeds - it was mostly the cukes & squash. The peppers & dill look fine. My habaneros haven't come up yet, but I expect them in the next few days.

Well.... I had intended to pop over to Lowe's and check out their garden section, see if they have anything interesting or even better gardening/work gloves that fit my tiny hands, or bright and happy flowers to cheer me up because nothing is budding out yet. But, DH forgot to tell me that him taking his new-to-us truck to the shop for a once over and various fluid changes meant that I wouldn't have my car. Probably not for the whole day. :barnie I guess he assumed I would figure that out and then last night he starts saying "We" need to leave at a certain time in the morning and I'm all "Wait.... What?"

Grrr. Guess I'll figure something out. Garden is still snowbound though, so that's out. Maybe I'll make a giant mess and start working on the aeroponic tower when the toddler naps this afternoon. Depends on my energy levels.

57F today, should be balmy! Definitely going for my mile+ walk.

I went to get eggs, and I have a hen in a box. Since I’m still waiting on two pullets to start (I think. No perfect egg days yet), I assumed she just needed a few minutes. I started walking around, and somehow I got two loads of old bedding out of the coop, and a new compost pile started. She is still in the box. I don’t want to jinx it, so I won’t say what I’m hoping. :fl

She’s still theeeeere! 9D68F351-0746-4517-8FE9-6AE19EB39FC5.gif

Also pulled the trellises off the garlic (laid them down to keep the squirrels from pulling out the garlic). I'm only missing like 3 bulbs, I believe that was the damage they did before I put the trellises in place. The shallots aren't in as good of shape, but I've never grown them before so I'm not sure if the rest will pop up or not.

I might wait another week to get the onion sets in, the cover crop hasn't died off under the plastic yet.
