Just catching up here. Been away all week at the in-laws out of town. We are heading home in the morning. I'm a bit nervous about what I'll find in the garden. Most things have been harvested already, but there were still green tomatoes on the vines when we left and the Jerusalem artichokes were flowering finally. I hope the JAs are ready for harvest and that the tomatoes didn't make a mess nor a buffet for squirrels and mice. I'll find out one way or another though.

Good morning gardeners. I didn't have any green tomatoes this year @NewBoots, but in the past I have made green tomato salsa verde. The recipe is in the Ball Canning cookbook. It's very good and comparable in flavor to salsa verde made with tomatillos. Yesterday was the big day here. I cut a hole in the wire between the big chicken run and the grow out pen and let the "littles" mingle with the old hens. Except for the expected snipping and chasing it went pretty well. I'll put together a proper door later so I can easily close that spot. I picked more green beans and lima beans yesterday. I also picked a small bell pepper. Except for the beans, carrots and chard the garden is pretty much done. My apple tree is arriving today so that will be going into the ground either tomorrow or Sunday. I'm still working on winter preps. I need to run to TSC today and pick up shavings and scratch. I might pick up corn for the cold months now rather than wait. The geraniums and impatiens I brought inside for the winter are doing well. They are still blooming and looking happy. My citrus trees are developing more leaves too. I think I need to up size the orange tree's pot. I'm hoping they will both develop fruit this year. Have a great day all.

I have ripe persimmons on my young Tree for the first time . Never seen a wild one in my area . Southern IL has wild ones . Just a few on the tree but it is bearing age now .
There was a persimmon tree outside my dorm room a LOOOONG time ago and along the way to some of my classes. I, and the opossums, were the only ones that ate them. LOL.

Played in the rain today. Planted 12 brussel sprout plants I picked up @ Wally world yesterday. Was sprinkling lightly all morning and I got tired of waiting But it started raining harder as soon as I started digging. Well, At least They will get a good soaking in today. Still have okra, impalaya, peppers, a long green skinned squash that I do't know what it's called and, surprise, a Roma tomato plant that has miraculously survived the summer heat and still producing. Will see how long it produces.
Will go through my seed collection soon to find out how much winter seed I need to find. Have a good day!

Congratulations! I know how great it is to have the integration work out, such a relief. Our new girls are all as big as the big girls are and laying pretty well. Still a soft egg or two on the poop boards some morning

We're going to get our covid boosters today:yesss: and then drop off the kennel that the humane society loaned us for Penny. The new one looks suitable for caging lions and she really likes it. She'll get into it on her own during the day for naps.

Still have maybe 50 pounds of apples staring at me so once we get home I'll get started working on them. I think I'll make some apple bread pudding for starters. I wonder if bread pudding freezes well?
