What did you do in the garden today?

I've tried bulk dandelion seeds and seeds from Baker. Neither were a success... That's why I opted to collect FREE dandelion seeds from my in-laws property when we visit. They have acres of them... šŸ˜† I prefer free seeds while I'm figuring out the best way to get them to grow down here.

my mother brought me dandelion plants from her zone 7b. it was september. they lived till next summer. dig some plants when you visit your in-laws next time. it will be much easier than start them from seeds.

I don’t eat dandelions, even though I know they are healthy, I want them for the chickens, I can go out and buy fresh fruit/veggies, the chickens can’t. So that is why I want dandelions for the chickens šŸ˜‡
I have 2 kinds,a wide and a narrow. They prefer the wide. I also think they are bitter :sick

I tried that the first year but they all died. I haven't tried again and I should.... Thank you for the suggestion. 😊

4 when I got up. Snow Wednesday and then near zero lows for a few days. Still winter for 39 more days. All this talk about dandelions. Can't you taste the bitter? Bitter is a deal breaker for me. I know it is genetic if you can or cannot taste bitter.
I don't eat them... I want the dandelions for my bunny, goats, and chickens. 😊 I suppose if I was starving I might try to cook the greens in something though.

You might be the only person I ever heard of that couldn't grow dandelions :lau
Maybe try growing in shade.

I don't even get the urge to plant until March. I don't start seeds in the seeding shed, until April 1, and even then, I'm sometimes not really in the mood.
I totally agree. After flip flopping warm and bitter cold, drought and super rain storms we’re in a snowy pattern. We just got 7 inches yesterday on top of the previous storms accumulation I’ve got about 12 pr more inches of snow on top of a 2 inch ice pack. Another 5 to 8 inches is expected Wednesday into Thursday. I’m so glad I got the snow blower serviced this year. I started my garden plan but it’s challenging when all you can see is snow.

It took me a few days, I know I likely still missed a lot of posts but I am reasonably caught up. Today is a rest day after the clean up from yesterday’s storm. I did buy a few seeds the other day and as I mentioned in the previous post, I’m struggling with the garden plan. I found a small raised bed kit at my favorite bargain store. The plan is to add gardening spots on the patio area. I’m also adding more grow bags this year. Won’t be doing anything else but planning and collecting things until this weather is warming up. I’m really jealous of your beef prices @igorsMistress. Meat, vegetable, eggs and flour prices are skyrocketing here. The grocery stores are limiting people to two dozen per visit. Fortunately my pullets are producing well. I bought 2 small steaks, a little over a pound and that was $20. I cut them in half so I get 4 servings at least. Scary stuff. Hopefully this craziness is over soon. It’s hard for me to understand why dandelions would be hard to grow. Lol! My thoughts: just plant them where you don’t want them to grow. My hanging strawberry bags are over wintering well on my front porch along with one of my lavender planters. I will be propagating the additional planters from my original plants. But no plans for seed starting soon.

When I was a little kid, my friend and I crawled on our hands and knees for half the day to pick every single dandelion in the yard. We thought we were clearing the yard of any and all dandelion plants and they'd never grow back. You can imagine our shock and dismay when the yard was covered in dandelions again the next morning... šŸ˜‚

And yet here I am in my advanced age TRYING to get a yard full of dandelions just like that.... I'd have been scandalized. šŸ˜†
